This true story by author and playwright Mark Forgy chronicles his friendship with “the world’s most successful art forger” Elmyr de Hory. The book has been adapted for the stage by Mark Forgy and Kevin Bowen and will be having its world premiere at the 2013 Minnesota Fringe Festival in August! The production is produced by Mark Forgy and Kevin Bowen with Jason Garton as Associative Producer. The show is directed by Sara Pillatzki-Warzeha with Assistant Direction by Pauline Jennings and Production Stage Management by Tim Colby. The Forger's Apprentice also features original music by Minnesota composer Martha Davis.
Our primary purpose in using Kickstarter is to cover our initial production costs related to mounting this world-premiere production. These include Minnesota Fringe Festival producer fees, renting or purchasing props, costumes, advertising, travel stipends for our cast and crew, composer fees and sundries. We’ve established a modest goal of two thousand dollars to accomplish this. Beyond this expense threshold, everyone involved in this project (the writers, cast and crew) will receive equal shares from profits which include ticket sales. Please check out our supporter-friendly donor incentive packages. We aim to foster the careers and talents of everyone connected to "The Forger’s Apprentice," provide a high-quality and entertaining world-premiere play for theater lovers here and beyond. We welcome, encourage, and are grateful for your support!
The play dramatizes the complex relationship between Elmyr de Hory and his two apprentices, one who wants to protect him, and the other who seeks to destroy him. It is a story that is rich with outrageous humor, tragedy, love and search for the truth as seen through the eyes of his true protégé.
Featuring a wonderful cast and crew from around the Twin Cities area, The Forger's Apprentice is bursting with talent and creativity. It's a story that is waiting to be told, and after 40 years, it's time to bring it to life. Now we need your help. The show has been in development for over a year, and as the saying goes, time is money. With the money provided by this campaign we will be able to rent costumes, props, set pieces, and be able to subsidize our cast and crew. We truly believe that collaboration is the key to creating truly original and beautiful work. We would love for you to collaborate with us by helping fund the show and then coming to see it!! We would love to have you there!!
We have some wonderful incentives for those who fund our show. Everything from a poster of Elmyr's work, to signed copies of The Forger's Apprentice by Mark Forgy, tickets to the show, even limited edition lithographs of a pencil line drawing in the style of Henri Matisse by Elmyr! These goodies are too sweet to pass up, so get them before they're gone!
Risks and challenges
By the time this campaign has reached it's end date, we will be just days away from premiering the show on the University of Minnesota Rarig Thrust Theater! Should we run into problems, we will tackle them by putting our minds together and collaborating. Who knows, maybe we will even make some new discoveries! We truly do have a professional cast and crew working on the show, and there is no doubt that any problems will not be handled with grace and wit.
THANK YOU FOR VISITING OUR PAGE. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT THE SHOW!!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
