Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys are working together with the common goal of creating music that speaks from their souls. Lou-grass.
We're recording a new album! Click here HERE to watch full videos of songs that will be featured on this new project!
It all started when four young college students got together in the tradition of bluegrass and began performing under a moniker given to them by the Greybeards, an earlier generation of bluegrass pickers. Soon after these Flatbellys recorded their debut album, entitled Get ‘Round, the band’s future looked dim as members ventured out into the world. But it wasn’t long before bassist, Spencer Cain, and mandolinist, Joshua Rilko swooped me up as lead vocalist, guitarist and primary songwriter. Upon my return from an extended stay in Latin America, the three of us plus friend and banjo extraordinaire, Keith Billik, recruited a handful of local musicians to lay down eleven of my original tracks.
This debut album represents what a group of friends could do in an impromptu effort to put together a recording and it was a beautiful learning experience the whole way through. These days, however, Spencer, Josh, Keith, myself and now good human and dobro-enthusiast, Mark Lavengood, are playing consistently as a band and have put all our efforts into a new batch of original tunes. Lou-Grass at it's finest! The songs are arranged, studio dates scheduled and ducks are in order for this new collective to share with you what we’ve been working on together.
In order to bring this project to completion, we need help with the cost of studio time for recording, mixing/editing, and mastering; the cost of CD production; and the cost of promoting the album upon its release. This kickstarter is our way of asking fellow music lovers to be a crucial part of the creation process. And in return for the support, we’re offering a variety of gifts to show our appreciation. However, if there’s something we’re not offering that you’re interested in- just shoot us an email and we’ll see what we can do!
NOTE: The pledge gifts are cumulative. So, for example, if you give $50, you will receive everything that is listed in the $10-$50 pledge options.
***I meant to include a physical copy of the CD in with the $15 pledge gift, and still intend to do so. Sorry for any confusion this may cause! So... for at least $15 you will receive a physical copy of the album in the mail, and if you donate $25 the CD will have all of our signatures on it.***
We're all speaking to you from the basement of Elderly Instruments in the video you see above. Thanks to Stan Werbin and everyone else at Elderly for always lending us your time and support!
Don't forget to check out the music videos of us playing live (songs for the new album: The Power, My Side of the Mountain, and The Leaves Are Changin) by clicking HERE. Big Foot Films created the videos for us... they're the bee's knees!
It will cost $15 to get a physical copy of the CD once it's released. Can I donate $15 to your kickstarter and get a CD?
YES! I accidently left that out when I created this project, and now that donations have started coming in, Kickstarter won't let me edit the details for the pledge. Fortuntely, I am adding to rather than taking away from the gift so hopefully no one is upset over this :) For those who have already donated $25 thinking it was the only way to get the album and for all others who donate $25 from now on, note that your CD will be signed! And also, I'll be throwing in a Lindsay Lou koozie to your package. A little number to keep your drink cold and your fingers warm!
