Cold and Loud - an Alaskan Rock Anthology
Every music scene needs a milestone and Cold and Loud is the one for Alaska. Originally conceived as a download-only album, Cold and Loud has blossomed into a two CD set. There have been Alaskan Music collections before, but none have had this many current artists or this much attention paid to every detail.
The Alaskan music scene is enjoying a new resurgence of original bands. The right set of circumstances can unlock our potential. Cold and Loud is one of the keys. Many of the great bands you will hear have never had a good recording of their songs until now. And some bands you may never have heard of - until now.
We put out the word in January that we were looking for original music for a new Alaskan rock collection and were inundated with responses. Every band who qualified for a slot (and practically everyone did) arrived at Surreal Studios for a no-holds-barred recording session in Alaska's premier Rock studio with veteran producer / engineer Kurt Riemann.
Twenty-eight bands showed up with their "A" game. This was a performance-oriented recording and everyone dug right in. Recording was painless, fun and great sounding. And there was no need to buy tickets to Seattle or Nashville to do this. We did it entirely in Alaska.
We've worked hundreds of hours over the past few months without any concern for the clock. But now it's time to finish and release what has very quickly become a highly anticipated Double CD. This isn't cheap. It's time to start covering the production and manufacturing costs. A double CD instantly doubled the price. But it was the only option because there was too much great music to abandon half of the artists. Cold and Loud has come this far on the faith that you will help launch this project the way it should be launched. We've put in some nifty incentives to help you see the light. All the bands are kicking in some of their own merchandise to make you part of the coolness.
Any amount OVER the funding goal just gets us more quality time to mix and master and do better promotion for our Alaskan bands on the CD. We can also order more CDs because frankly, at the $5,000 level, we'll run out of CDs within a week. It's half as many as we need, but we've got to to start somewhere. Believe me - we can use all the support you can give. Having more Cold and Loud CDs in their hands will help the bands make more money on the project.
"Okay, I'm in. So who is on it?" you seem to be asking. We're glad you asked. There's Kallahan, Woodrow, Slave II Nothing (from Healy), Pretty Birds That Kill, The Rocket Surgeons, 3 Kisses, Waking Cerberus (from Nikiski), Bolt Action Beaver, Stuntcock, A Wake Among the Forgotten (from Wasilla), The Sweeteners, Anchors Alive (Eagle River), TIA, Sicarius, Zombieskillingnazis, Cease Fire, Decepticide, Noise Brigade, Robots Helping Clones, Sky Is Falling, City In Ashes, Wichita Shadows, To The Depths, Bottle Caps for Dollars, Men With Guns, Giants Make Way, Noise Brigade, PJ Franco and the Burnouts, and Turquoise Boy. Hey, we even have pictures of evertbody.
