Hello Giant HB Lamp Backers!

In mid May Michael is heading to London to assemble your hand crafted lamps and custom build the Pencil Box packaging. 

We'll let each of you know when your Lamp leaves the Blackhorse Workshop (in East London) so you know it's arrival is drawing closer ;)

We are super excited to deliver your Lamps and hope they bring you joy and inspiration.

Hello everyone,

It's hard to believe we're heading towards the end of March already - where does the time go? We have been progressing well with Drew albeit agonising over the details and continuously going back and forth with our manufacturers as we navigate towards the best possible outcome. As they say, 'Every day's a school day'.

We've overcome some challenging electronics.
We've been trying to achieve the perfect yellow for the pencil body (the graphic designers in us).
We've been testing the tones of the eraser/light and working out the kinks (literally) in the stand and cable.

Twists & Turns
It was important for us to create an interesting and fun way to switch Drew on and off that reflected the playful nature of the concept. This led to the twist to turn on/dimmer function which has been quite challenging for us to achieve.

In particular, ensuring the smoothness and functionality of turning the pencil into a giant dimmer within such a narrow space has meant we've needed to create custom molded parts to make it happen. Happily we have now got this working well.

Jumping Through Hoops
The next stage is the safety test to ensure that our adapters, custom parts and electronic comply with a number of different international standards. We have also just discovered that we will need to submit Drew for chemical tests to ensure that all of his materials are friendly to everyone.

Pilot Run
After certification Michael will be traveling to Shenzhen for the pilot production run. This is where we will produce and assemble 100x Drew's to ensure that the scaling up doesn't affect the quality. If all goes smoothly and we get the green light from our quality control team, we will carry on with production of the very first run of Drew - exciting times!

Thinking Outside The Box (or thinking about the outside of the box!)
As everything progresses on the manufacturing front, we have also been working on the packaging. We are now able to give you a little sneak peak of what this will look like - and we do mean little.

We've made a draft mini mock up of our pack designs which you can take a look at below. Our idea was to stay with the drawing/illustration theme with a pencil sketched version of Drew and his cable scribbling it's way around the box.

To all our Original and Custom Giant HB Lamp Backers we have our London based team of specialist crafts people on the case hand making all of the elements. Michael will be traveling to London in May to personally assemble, package and ship your Giant HB Lamps. They are a labour of love :)

Hello lovely backers,
We hope everyone had a wonderful festive season and that the early days of 2017 have been fantastic. After enjoying a little Sydney beach time with our boys, we're now feeling refreshed and ready to take on 2017 YEAH!

Fortunately all is going well so far and thanks to our fantastic team, Drew is running to schedule. We were excited to receive our first tooling sample over the Christmas period. Without your support Drew would not have reached this crucial stage as this is a BIG part of where the funds are being use, so THANKS AGAIN :)

At this important time we are able to make comments and alterations to the structures of the tooled parts. We were warned by our manufacturers that this would be a rough sample and finishes would not be of the highest quality just yet.

We are delighted with the initial results and eager to receive the next round of even more polished tooling samples.

To our Custom Giant HB Lamp backers, we'll soon be sending you a visual with your chosen colour and copy with some typography suggestions. Keep an eye out for this.

We are very fortunate to have partnered with a great team who are helping us manage the production. As Chinese new year approaches, our partners will be taking some well earned time off to celebrate and recharge. Then it'll then be all systems go to ensure we get your Drew to you in May.

Here's to an amazing Year of the Rooster, or should that be Year of the Drewster?!
