The Crossover Projekt‘s main purpose is to build bridges
The project was conceived by Isabel Gotzkowsky in 2013 after recognizing that young dancers are often not fully equipped to enter the professional world upon completion of their dance training. They often lack the know-how, professional network and financial means to travel from audition to audition, or lack the courage to simply approach a choreographer they would like to work with. Likewise, it is often difficult for young choreographers to find the necessary infrastructures to develop their work. The Crossover Projekt is aimed to fulfill the needs of both the choreographers and dancers, therefore creating networks and starting blocks. It provides a platform for these artists to present themselves and their works on stage.
We are currently in our second year. Last year we selected 10 dancers, who worked with and performed the works of 7 choreographers in 12 performances, which were held in Berlin, Hamburg, Tübingen, Prague and Kempten.
This year we are presenting 8 dancers, who are working with 6 choreographers (including 2 alumni dancers from last year) and will be performing in Berlin (September 3 - 6) and Hamburg (September 11 - 13), with more performances and venues in the works.
It is our goal for these dancers to have no expenses for joining our project. Although we are not receiving any state or city funding at this time, we feel very strongly about not charging the dancers to participate in our program.
We appreciate the partnership of the dance academy balance1, located in Berlin, who is granting us rehearsal space.
Risks and challenges
The performances in Berlin and Hamburg are guaranteed and will take place. However, the ticket revenues we receive won't cover all aspects of the performances, which include printing and designing cost, music rights and fees to GEMA, costumes, travel, accommodations and per diem for the dancers and the cost for the lighting designer.
All project-related costs are currently personally funded by Isabel and this is were we need your help to ensure the sustainability of the project for this year and moving forward.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
