A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
Once upon a time hammers and screwdrivers were the best option for driving nails and screws ... but oh how things have changed. Now, nail guns and drills are a must have for any do-it-yourselfer or construction site. It is my desire that the traditional wheelbarrow, with the patented BeastBarrow attachment, be the preferred method of small load transportation. It maximizes work for contractor-grade projects, do-it-yourself improvements, and everything in between with a second, swiveling in-line wheel.
What is BeastBarrow?
BeastBarrow is a patented attachment that provides the means to attach a second wheel to almost any wheelbarrow. This second wheel has patented turning or swiveling capabilities, carries the weight, and allows you to push a heavy load instead of pushing and lifting all the weight. If you or someone you know moves heavy things with a wheelbarrow regularly this will be a life changing tool. For the less frequent user, this will make your outdoor duties less burdensome.
With an adjustable rubber bushing and a pivot point similar to that of skate board, the more the wheelbarrow turns the more resistance the bushing provides therefore the wheelbarrow can turn without collapsing. Patents were issued over 100 years ago for a second in-line wheel that could carry the load, but these wheelbarrows were unable to turn. You still had to lift the wheelbarrow each time you wanted to change direction. This new swiveling attachment has that same weight bearing capability plus the maneuverability of a traditional wheelbarrow.
BeastBarrow in Action
How will the project funding be used?
Although I have been using BeastBarrows for years on my job sites, they are still considered working prototypes. With the recent patent approval it's time to start manufacturing BeastBarrows in bulk quantities. I have a local manufacturer that is excited to make the first run. All I need to do is collect a large number of pre-orders. A high pre-order volume will help drive the manufacturing expenses down so I can pass along an affordable price to consumers. All funds will be used for manufacturing, future expansion of the BeastBarrow design, and testing the fit of the BeastBarrow attachment to different wheelbarrow brands.
Evolution of the BeastBarrow
Risks and challenges
There are always unforeseen risks with first-time endeavors. Through trial and error I continue to improve the design and reliability of the BeastBarrow. The biggest challenge I see right now will be shipping the product to consumers and making sure they have the necessary information to attach the device to their wheelbarrow of choice. I will soon be making a how-to video with these instructions, and I'm here to answer any questions you may have.
For those who previously pledged for the BeastBarrow attachment with second wheel and would like to upgrade their pledge to include a heavy duty wheelbarrow this reward is for you!
Some assembly required.
