For some time now I’ve been making VR experiences. You may have seen my Studio Ghibli inspired projects based on My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away.
I want to make more. A lot more. Bigger! Better! More…. good! Part of that is being part of the community. Being a part of the events that make VR the awesome, amazing, growing industry it is becoming. Oculus Connect is going to be a big part of that.
Oculus Connect will be my Mecca - and I need to make this pilgrimage. But I need your help - and I’m willing to make the GREATEST VIRTUAL REALITY ADVENTURE GAME ever made! Plus, Apple Pie!
But also: I get to go to Oculus Connect in September. WIN-WIN!
First: I will be making THE GREATEST VR ADVENTURE OF ALL TIME. It will be THAT good because YOU get to decide what’s in it! You even get to BE in it. And you get to PAY for it - and you would only pay for something that was EXCELLENT!
MORE INFO ON THE GAME: The game itself is going to be an adventure that tells the tale of my trip to Oculus Connect, through the lens of a surreal, possibly brain damaged, mental patient. Puzzles, challenges and other road blocks bar your way - and it's up to you to figure out the madness.
A DEMO! I am making a demo RIGHT NOW to show off some of these ideas.
Second: While in the US I will be discovering the BEST American Style Apple Pie recipe I can possibly find for. No holds barred.
Third. You will be helping me raise the money I need to go to Oculus Connect in September - to fly from the UK to the US and stay in a hotel and all the rest - because there is no other way I can do it and because you are awesome, amazing people!
While in the US I will discover the recipe for the greatest American Style Apple Pie and I will give it to you!
Maybe! Who knows! How exciting.
“RedOfPaw's Big Crazy Stupid VR Adventure and American Pie” the VR experience will be inspired by my journey to Oculus Connect - and also perhaps with a little LSD thrown into the mix.
From the interminable hell of Airport Customs, to the wilds of the LA urban jungle, culminating in the OZ-like cathedral of VR that is Oculus Connect, you will re-live my journey - and perhaps get to meet the Great OZ himself! If I can get near him…
The VR game will likely not be the longest, but perhaps that's for the best! I hope to have it complete by Jan' 2015, give or take a couple weeks, but of course there's no way to know for sure!
You get to decide what I put in it! Not only will I be creating a VR adventure based on my journey, but I will also crowd-source and poll suggestions of what should be in it? What graphical style will it have? What gameplay? Will it be a shooting game or a point and click adventure? I DON’T KNOW! That’s up to you!
You also get to DIRECTLY affect what goes into the game yourself, with BACKER REWARDS! Check the side bar for more details and additional rewards!

Risks and challenges
Risks: With such a random selection of elements it might not work and it might please no one.
Challenges: Creating a VR experience is hard enough without allowing the improvisational nature of public whim to take over. Time as well is of course a massive challenge and it may run over time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
