Looking to learn about starting and operating a business in apparel design, but don’t want to attend a several-year-long program or strike out all on your own? What if you could attend a weekend conference and learn from established designers and entrepreneurs?
Doesn't that sound great? We think so.
We also think that women and girls shouldn't have to struggle to find beautiful, practical, and affordable apparel that allows them to be comfortable and modest--clothing that highlights a woman's worth, not just her waistline. We care about modesty—both in dress and in attitude—and we’re on a mission to help designers who share those values create clothing that reflects those values.
Maybe you’re one of those designers; maybe you’re one of those discerning customers. Either way, you can help us make strides in the apparel industry by backing Modest Fashion Guild’s conference. Thanks for your support!
Okay, time for the details.
Conference Dates: April 21-22, 2017
Our knowledgeable and talented team will present on topics including:
- Finding a Niche on Etsy
- Styling Outfits for a Photoshoot
- Crafting a Business Plan
Our 2015 conference was a valuable experience for everyone involved.
Here are some things last year's attendees said:
- “I found all the topics extremely relevant, informative, and inspiring.”
- “Excellent information! Loved the engaging speakers!”
- “I appreciated the casual, family atmosphere, where we could just sit and talk about relevant topics and voice any questions we had. I liked the meals together.”
Some important things participants took away from the 2015 event:
- “Freedom to go forward even if I don’t know everything.”
- “Being able to understand the process from start to finish, hearing from others that have designed and manufactured, leaving with contacts that are eager to help!”
Let's talk about rewards for a minute.
Resource Guide--Not sure how and where to produce your designs outside of your own home? We've done the research for you! Find fabric wholesalers, manufacturers, pattern graders, and more!
Networking Lunch--Spend a little time at the conference and enjoy a meal with speakers and attendees.
Videos--These are the four most-requested sessions from last year's conference, and as of right now, these training videos are offered only on Kickstarter!
Sponsorship Packages--This is a great way to promote your business, particularly if it relates to fashion design (fabric, sewing machines) or entrepreneurship (web development, graphic design, accounting). Of course we don't want to turn away any support, but MFG reserves the right to refuse sponsorship from any entity promoting something that is contrary to our values or that we determine will not be of benefit to our participants. If we determine that we cannot accept your sponsorship, we will promptly refund in full the money you gave in support of this campaign.
*Conference Attendance--We do have some guidelines for conference attendance--participants sixteen and up will benefit most from the sessions, and the conference is geared towards women designing for women and girls The networking lunch, however, is open to the general public. Please make sure you understand our policies before pledging.
How will the money pledged be used?
Here is the basic financial breakdown:
We’ve been blessed by people volunteering their time and providing a venue for us to use at little-to-no cost, so we have an extremely low overhead. We know the numbers from our previous conference, and as incredible as it might seem, we can host a great conference if we raise $1000.
However, we can’t do everything we’d like to on that budget, so that’s where the stretch goals come in!
- Help us raise $1400 and we can bring in another speaker or two.
- Reaching the $1650 goal makes it possible to get an inside look at manufacturing here in Texas. We think it would be of tremendous value to tour one of Austin’s apparel manufacturers.
- And if you really want to make a difference, let’s aim for the $5000 stretch goal and bring a future conference to another state!
As you can see, we’ve designed the conference to operate on a…well…modest budget. But there's a lot of potential to add even more value to the experience and to reach more people, so the bigger you dream with us, the better it gets. Pick your favorite reward, and help make Modest Fashion Guild’s 2017 conference a success!
Risks and challenges
As with any live event, there are a number of circumstances outside our control that might necessitate an alteration in the conference plans. We are confident that we can handle unexpected situations in a satisfactory manner, whether it means finding a replacement speaker, using technology to enable someone to present a session remotely, or switching to a venue that will accommodate a larger attendance than we expected. As far as we are able, we'll ensure that any change in plans is for the better!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
