OMG guys, we made it! We reached the goal! With a whole week left, I've decided to add a stretch goal. If we reach £4000 instead of £3200, I will put 12 songs on this album instead of 10!! If you want to be part of this, it's not too late! Pledge now and make this album even better! We only have a few days left, let’s make it even more awesome!
‘City of My Mind’ is probably not something you will ever hear on a Top 40 radio station. That doesn’t mean it’s not beautiful. It’s just… a little bit different.
Who am I?
I'm an independent singer-songwriter living near Cambridge, UK. I've been singing and writing songs ever since I can remember! People often tell me that my music reminds them of either Kate Bush, Regina Spektor or Tori Amos. I don't necessarily see it, but I am very flattered!
What is My Goal?
I am raising funds to enable me to finish my debut album. The money will be used to pay for studio time to get the 10 songs professionally mixed and mastered.
“City of My Mind" is an ambitious project.
Essentially, it's 10 songs worth of alternative/chamber pop, with occasional electronic and psychedelic influences. It combines orchestral instruments such as brass and string ensembles, flute, oboe, cello, violin and grand piano with electronic beats, guitars and soaring - but kinda catchy - vocals, to tell a story.
If you have been following my work for the past years, you might already know some of these songs from myYouTube channel, where I posted acoustic versions of them.
On the album, these acoustic versions will be transformed into complex arrangements, with drums, bass, guitars, synths, grand piano and orchestral instruments.
In the past, I have released two other EPs, entirely self-produced.
THIS TIME though, I want to take my music to the next level, by enlisting the help of a professional mix engineer and of mastering engineer. I believe that this album deserves to be heard in a quality that does it justice!
'Monsters', from my first EP:
Now, a project of this amplitude would probably cost around £10 000.
But me and Andy (who is my 'team': sound engineer/videographer/multi-instrumentalist/whatever is needed for a project) have managed to save a lot of money by doing much of the work ourselves and spreading it out during the last couple of years.
Almost all of the songs have already been recorded, so the studio time would be used to have them mixed at 123 Studios in London with Brett Shaw (has worked with Daughter, Florence and the Machine, etc) and then mastered in another studio. Here is a breakdown of the costs:
Mixing costs: £2000
Kickstarter fee: £150
Postage & other rewards: £up to £300
If by any chance we manage to raise more money than the set goal, every single penny will go into making the album better! More money means more time in the studio, the possibility of recording more musicians on top of what we already have, etc.
Due to financial constraints, I am only putting 10 songs on ‘City of My Mind’, when in reality it could have easily been a 12-14 track album! If I raise enough money, I would love to put these on the album as well!
These are unique, so if you decide to pledge for one of them, you’ll own the only one in the whole world!
Thanks for checking out my campaign and for being one of the generous souls who enables me to make this album happen! I can't wait to have this album finished and into your hands (and ears!) xx
Risks and challenges
Unless something goes horribly wrong, such as there’s a fourth World War or we all turn into zombies, I am expecting to have this completed in January 2018. In February you should all have ‘City of My Mind'!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
