Treachery. Secrets. Murder. It is a good day to be a Drow.
Of Drow Origin is a tale of intrigue and shifting loyalty. This one-shot module has a very high replay value, caters to new players and veterans, and features unique game play scenarios which ultimately resolve through PVP interaction (combat and non-combat).
This project contains a full package of goodies certain to appeal to all types of gamers, including a beautifully illustrated book chock full of unique content and extras that make this a grab-and-go solution for DMs that want to run a game for friends, a party, or convention. As written this game is intended for NINE players but scales well down to as few as four or five.
The funding goal goes directly to pay the artists and designers that helped create the project as well as all of the other production costs and other promotional expenses.
The story is written with an emphasis on roleplay. Character levels range from two to eleven making choosing allies an all-important task. Each of the nine main characters has a short background that provides just enough ambiguity to allow players to insert themselves into the heads of their character while still making decisions that make each play-through different. By focusing on the roleplay, this game has wide appeal to all levels of experience, while still keeping the power-gamers second guessing every choice.
The module is intended to be used in any setting and uses Dungeons & Dragons 5E rules. I have played and continue to run this game at a number of venues, each time with huge success and different outcomes to the story:
- birthday parties
- bachelor parties
- private events at local game stores
My typical convention description:
"Matron Mother has learned that something of drow origin was found in a human dwelling and sends her trusted daughters to personally attend to the matter. This story-based encounter, filled with intrigue and surprises, encourages roleplay and takes advantage of the ease of use found in 5th edition rules. Pregenerated characters fit for the scenario are provided."
The game has been heralded by players at some of these events as "best game played all weekend" and "sets the benchmark that all other modules should strive for." The story has been compared to Game of Thrones with "surprises and twists at every turn."
The module itself contains over 70 pages of amazing resources and art, including:
# GM Encounter Guide to spice things up when it gets too quiet
# Character Profiles with full game statistics, roleplay backgrounds, motivations, and beautifully illustrated images
# NEW Subclasses. These fully playable subclasses can be used outside of this module for your home games
- Blackguard - a Fighter subclass specializing on intimidation
- Circle of the Coven - a Druid subclass that chooses between White or Black magic
- Domain of the Spider Queen - a Cleric subclass custom fit to the drow
# NEW items and equipment
# Variant Options to add additional levels of complexity, including
- a new form of spellcasting: Sympathetic Magic
- suggestions for accommodating the game to smaller or larger groups
- an initiative system that balances storytelling during combat
# Easter Eggs How many can you find?
Between high resolution maps ready for online or tabletop play and printed goodies which make DM prep a breeze, the extras included are both quality and valuable.
# Sorn Manor map available in high resolution both digitally or as a vinyl print 48" x 33". Either version can be printed with a grid overlay.
# The Printed Extras Kit contains the following:
- Item Cards which depict an image of the item with game statistics on the back printed on high-quality poker cards
- Character Profiles printed on heavy-duty 8x10 card stock with the game statistics on the front and roleplaying notes on the back, making game prep and reuse a cinch!
- Tokens to be used for unique mechanics utilized by the scenario.

Add-ons and More
If you want some of this and a little of that, the graphic below should give you what you need!
Shipping and Fulfillment
My intent is to make this project available to anyone in the world. Shipping will be collected through the pledge manager and will be based on actual costs. As a result, do not include funds to cover your postage payment in the pledge, since the Kickstarter and other fees are based on the total pledges received, thus you would end up paying about 10% more for shipping than necessary.
I am working very hard to provide cost-saving options for international backers including securing a relationship to do the printing and other fulfillment services in the UK and elsewhere.
Because most of the development (aside from content unlocked by the backers of this project) is complete, I feel confident in a quick turnaround for fulfillment.
By backer request, here is an introduction to the main characters and a taste of the artwork!
Any additional money pledged from the Stretch goal can be added now to unlock additional stretch goals or through Backerkit after the project has closed.
#Fantasy Grounds implementation is now unlocked! The Omnipotent Oracle tier is available which bundles the PDF and Fantasy Grounds license, and the license will be available as an add-on for $5 for all backers at $25 or more.
Fantasy Grounds license will likely not be released until February.
# New Havens NPCs
The village of New Haven is full of NPCs and I'm letting you fill the town. Submit character ideas to me via message and you can see your NPC appear in the module! Some restrictions apply.
Option 1: New Haven Townsfolk (50/50 Remaining)
For $5 you provide a name and description (75 words or less) of a resident of this village. Your NPC can be anything from the commonfolk that make up the lifeblood of the village to officials, business owners, or artisans that help keep order and make visitors feel like New Haven is a second home.
Option 2: New Haven Socialite (4/4 Remaining)
For $50 you can provide a name and description (75 words or less) of a resident of this village that stands out a bit above the rest. This character can have up to two character class levels as described in the 5E D&D OGL and character statistics fitting the description provided. He or she will be featured in a separate section from the other NPCs with a color portrait done by Mario Saggia, the masterful illustrator for this project. Your character's portrait will also have a page of its own in the Art Book
# System Conversions
I've had a few requests for converting to 3.x or Pathfinder but I'm really open to doing any other system. At the end of the project I'll include additional system conversion options that can be selected and, after the 5E rewards are fulfilled I'll start work on publishing the alternate systems. Conversions will only be available via digital download, only as add-ons, and have a delivery date in March.
A digital copy will be $15 for backers pledging less than $25 and only $5 for any backer that pledged $25 or more.
# Drow Raiding Party
The last version of this project started by being a minis project rather than a story project. That was definitely a mistake. At $5,500 I am willing to open up the minis a little early. This will only be available as a set as an add-on ($35). Preselling these awesome minis will help reduce the price of the next project which will unlock the full set of characters and a lot more. One step at a time, however. One step at a time...

# Exclusive Backer only dice.
Legal / Official Stuff:
This module is being produced by someone familiar with Fantasy Grounds that is not affiliated with SmiteWorks. SmiteWorks is only responsible for reviewing and delivering the final version once developed.
All NPC submissoins become my property and I do not owe you anything for publishing your submission in my work. Your backer name will be used to credit you. All entries are subject to approval before being accepted.
Risks and challenges
The module and layout are (near) complete, so all that remains are adding additional art, doing final edits, and adding any other enhancements generated by this project before it is ready for final print.
I have done my best to mitigate risks by planning and scheduling all the resources I would need in advance. This kickstarter relaunch is in direct response to not meeting the needs of gamers, and should be evidence of my commitment to seeing this project through.
In my day-to-day life I manage projects far more complex than this Kickstarter has been (although not nearly as fun). I am constantly monitoring the health of the project and will react where needed - if not to overcome the issue, then to communicate the issue and intended resolution to those that have supported me. My responsibility and commitment is to get a quality gaming product on your table, and I will do what it takes to make that happen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
