Void Sea is a space adventure RPG, set in an immense open galaxy. Using a visual novel style on each planet. Explore, romance, survive.

Inspired by Firefly, SG1, and games such as FTL, Sunless Sea, and the classic Final Fantasies.
"I remember growing up playing the classic Final Fantasy games. Up to this day I still have that nostalgia of flying around in an airship, exploring the world with all my party right there with me on the ship. At any point having that freedom of stepping away from the wheel and going to talk to everyone on board to see how they were all doing. Let's take that concept and put it into space!"
You’re captain of your very first space ship, and it’s time to take her into the void sea!
Explore an entire galaxy, which is a completely open world sandbox. No ‘jump gates’ or loading screens, it’s fully seamless. It would take you hundreds of hours to get from one side to the other using sub-light engines alone. That's where your hyperdrive comes in, increasing your speed a hundred fold.
Take part in space combat against pirates, hostile factions, or piracy may just take your fancy itself when you see that cargo ship fly past, full to the hull with booty in an undefended region.
Upgrade ship components such as engines, weapons, shields, generator, sensor, hull, cargo bay, and more!
Discover and recruit over a dozen characters throughout the galaxy all with their own traits, and stories to delve into.
Romance crew, or maybe you just want to get to know a little more about them over a friendly coffee in the rec room.
Trade with planets and stations for resources to run your ship, or figure out where to buy / sell for a peaceful trader existence to build up your credits.
- Mine asteroids for raw materials to either use yourself or sell.
There are a dozen planned core characters, and several species. These are the more humanoid characters we have so far:
(Male characters are also planned)
We are currently working on the other species. This is an example sketch of the Kupol. They live on ocean worlds with their distinctive elegant octopus like features and blue-purple skin. They are able to meld mind and body with any organic creature to heal, remove poison, and even alter mental state, amongst other things. The Kupol are peaceful, and strongly protective of preserving nature. They are however no push-over, and rumoured to be able to kill anything with a single touch.
Luna is now finished! :D
Romance will contain adult ‘content’. The Steam version will be censored, however a patch will be available to remove this. (Just to clarify, Claire has her birthday before anything adult takes place). This will include an explicit CG gallery with ending scenes, however the focus is romance, and not 'for the sake of it' scenes.
Factions and Species
There are currently 6 major species that run the galaxy. There are also minor species, and more primitive life forms still in their infancy.
It is entirely possible you may run into an iron age civilization, or species that have only just discovered space travel.
There are a variety of industry and military ships going about their business: mining, trading, researching, and patrolling the galaxy.
These are some of the human core ships already in the game. More variety of ships are in the works, such as alternate species and pirates.
Living Breathing Galaxy
The galaxy is full of life, with an abundance of diversity and unfolding events.
- Trade ships travelling far and wide.
- Enforcers (police) patrolling home worlds and trade routes.
- Industrial sectors full of mining ships and refineries.
- Science vessels researching and scanning anomalies.
- Junker ships scavenging wreckage.
- Pirates hiding and laying in wait.
At the start the player ship is an old era battleship, neglected and rusting away in a junker shipyard. It's up to you to return it to it's days of glory and beyond. You can upgrade the interior as well as the exterior, and fully interact with the ship and crew members aboard in each room.
Ship Room Navigation Menu
There are junkers, corporate, military, and secret experimental shipyards with various upgrades for your ship. These are found on planets and stations scattered through the galaxy. Access may be as simple as gaining a respectable reputation with that faction, or helping them to win a war.
There are kinetic, laser, and plasma weapons: primary, heavy, side auto cannons, and missiles.
Using the galaxy map you can select your destination (you must discover systems for them to update on your star charts). You can then engage your hyperdrive and follow the galactic compass. The entire galaxy is seamless with no loading screens.
Space combat consists of manual primary weapons, heavy weapons that need to charge up, and side auto-cannons that engage enemies automatically within range. There are kinetic, plasma, laser, and missiles all with their own variables such as: rate of fire, range, damage, energy requirements.
Mechanics consist of a generator that powers everything on-board. The generator chargers a yellow bar that energy based weapons use, and shields to recharge from.
Sensor range is the white circle around the ship. Any ships outside this circle are undetectable. Upgrading your sensor array will increase this range substantially.
In the vast sea of the void, piracy is all but a given. Whilst pirates are frowned upon, they are still tolerated due to their economic benefits of trade. Many factions even have truces with certain pirate lords. Enforcers will still take action against you if you commit crime within their borders.
If you are committing piracy and you badly damage or scare a transport ship. It may choose to jettison all their cargo to escape with their lives. The ship may however be gambling, and only have jettisoned half of their cargo. A few extra shots might just make them remember to release the rest… You can destroy the ship outright, however much of their cargo will be destroyed, and you will have killed innocent lives. Murder is not as easily forgiven or forgotten...
Visual novel story telling
The game uses heavy influence from visual novels as the method of story telling, interaction, and decision making. These are in small segments, and you can leave conversations at many points.
There are currently 3 soundtracks created for the game so far. The plan is to have around 20+ for different regions of space, planets, shipyards, events.
2. Metalic Clarity
3. Coffee Rush
We worked endlessly to get the art style perfect. As you can see the background art work is on a phenomenon level of beauty and polish. Each piece ranging from 20-30+ hours to complete. We want every planet, every room on the ship, any area to make you really immerse yourself in the moment.

Risks and challenges
The game failing? Not.Going.To.Happen.
We will deliver. I'm not promising, i'm telling you.
The game is already well and truly past the concept stage, and deep into development. It is roughly 50% complete after 2 years. All of the difficult design problems, combat, trading, HUD, Inventory, Ship upgrade menu, ship navigation menus, character designs, galaxy map, Galaxy / planet shaders, ship designs, crew interaction, all of the mechanical aspects that make or break a game concept. The game is there on a polished mechanical level for you to see, and it works. We just need to fill it with actual content and story now. Which we're already doing.
The most important thing is; how big do you want the galaxy to be. How much content such as characters, locations, soundtracks, equipment upgrades, ships, and variety to the galaxy do you want?
The more support from backers, the more we are capable of achieving.
That being said there is a risk we may need to extend the deadline if we feel certain areas are lacking, characters, locations, or even soundtracks need re-working or more depth. We're committed to delivering a phenomenal game from release. (Don't worry, we're not talking about pulling a Star Citizen on you, maybe a few extra months if we need them).
We're hoping to hit our deadline goal though, however we do admit it is an optimistic goal, and there's a high chance of needing to extend it. We will be updating you on progress at least once a month with letting you know where we're at on the schedule of completion and showing you new content. Also at the same time taking on feedback. (Having you let us know what you like or dislike will really help our content focus).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
