Falafel’s garden is a rhyming children’s book about gardening, cooking, and forgiveness. A clumsy, yoga-loving llama, a socially anxious sheep, and an epicurean horse come together in this endearing, yet humorous tale of the trials of friendship. Written in anapestic tetrameter, the rhythm of the book will be sure to delight readers of all ages!
When I started making organic stuffed animals two years ago, Falafel the Llama, Baxter the Horse, and Griswold the Sheep were the first characters I made. I wrote brief story lines for them and painted ‘pop-up’ scenery for them to live in. From the moment I created them, I knew they deserved more than a few sentences for their stories. My lifelong love of children's books inspired me to bring Falafel, Baxter, and Griswold to a book of their own.
Using eco-friendly materials and ethical labor is important to me. The book will be printed on 100% recycled paper in the US, and I will make the plush in my studio using hand dyed organic fabrics, organic thread, and organic buckwheat hulls.

If we reach the $15,000 stretch goal, season extension supplies will be purchased for The Edible Schoolyard in Greensboro, NC! This will allow them to grow a true winter garden and harvest nutrient dense, fresh ingredients to use in school group programs, cooking classes, and their after school program.
In order to get the book printed in the US using eco-friendly paper, I need your support!
The book will be 8.5 X 8.5 inches (21.6 X 21.6 cm), and the text will be printed on high-quality, FSC certified, chlorine free, 100% recycled paper. The ISBN, copyright, and editing for the book have already been paid for, so the funds for the campaign will go towards printing the minimum book order, shipping (within the US), and fees for Kickstarter and Stripe payments.
Fluffmonger was created out of my desire to create cute things made with environmentally and socially conscious materials. I've been making organic plush toys in my studio in Greensboro, NC, since 2014. I recently branched out into recycled paper greeting cards and now a children's book! All of the materials I use are organic or recycled and come from responsible sources.

Risks and challenges
With the story written and the illustrations under way, the risks for this project are low. The company that will be printing the book is a family-run business with over 30 years of experience in the industry. In the event that the project is well overfunded, extra printing time may be required in order to fulfill all of the orders.
For the handmade plush, I only offered a limited number of rewards to ensure I would be able to fulfill the orders in the given time frame.
As the creator of this project, I can't think of anything more exciting than getting the rewards into the hands of backers. I will be working diligently to make sure all of the orders are fulfilled in a timely manner.
