About

The goal of this project is to locally source ingredients for our plant-based product, Chuice, and support sustainable agriculture in our Georgia community. Chuice is an incredibly delicious blend of over 30 fresh fruits vegetables, herbs, nuts and seeds - all in one bottle!

We currently source our ingredients from all over the country. We’ve been hard at work the past few months engaging with several family-owned farms and organizations local to Georgia that are committed to helping their community through promotion of locally grown food. These groups are excited to be involved with a company that is growing and creating a need for more fresh produce. We will keep you updated with profiles of these farms, so you can get to know who and how your dollars are helping.

Atlanta Harvest
Atlanta Harvest

Not too long ago, people lived in rural areas and were closer to farms and therefore closer to fresh food. Over the last 200 years, we've moved away from our rural roots to cities. Food needed to become more convenient to prepare and last longer on the shelves in our industrialized world. People are more prone to grab a pre-cooked meal and sacrifice healthy options for convenience. We've been steadily drifting away from eating quality, home cooked meals. Today, more than 90% of Americans eat food that comes from more than 1,500 miles from where they live.

Our goal is to change that! Here at Chuice we want to give people a healthy, grab-and-go option and make it simpler to bring locally grown produce into your diet. Supporting Chuice is supporting southeastern farmers. Your funds will not only help support local farms, but also support our company in our mission to create an easier path to a healthier future.

Risks and challenges

Like any startup, we had to examine the feasibility of reaching our goal--to implement local sourcing so that our success can also be a success for local farmers looking for demand and to potentially spur local economic growth. Right now we get our ingredients from all over the country. Surprisingly, it can often be cheaper to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables that come from very far away. We know that sourcing local produce is the right thing to do, even if it means spending a little more. We are still a small company that has big dreams. Your dollars help support our transition. Risks and challenges are divided into 3 categories below: product, sourcing, and sustainability.

PRODUCT

Can we reach our goal?

Our goal is to have the first official bottling of Chuice made with some locally sourced ingredients by April 1st, 2015. Unlike many Kickstarter projects that are in concept/design phase, we already have a product we manufacture and sell on retail shelves locally. This increases the chances of success tremendously. While we may have to experiment a little with newly sourced kale and other ingredients to make Chuice maintain its incredible taste profile, we are confident that we'll be able to maintain high quality standards with incredible deliciousness.

SOURCING

If we raise the funds, can we find farmers growing the ingredients we need?

Since Georgia is an agriculture state with warmer climate, this part is easier for us. In the scope of small, medium and large sized farms in the state of Georgia, medium sized farms are the ones most in need of demand for their fruits and vegetables. Everyone knows they need to eat more fruits and vegetables and most people have a hard time eating as much of these fresh ingredients as they know they should. Chuice is a great vehicle for making fruit and vegetable consumption easier.

We plan to highlight the farms and farmers as we reach our goals. We've already identified partners, such as Atlanta Harvest. We've also connected with local networks ready to help with sourcing as well as logistics. Farmers will be standing by, waiting for us to place orders.

We've purposely timed our campaign to allow planning for crops so they can be strategically targeted for our special bottling in April. Climate changes are out of our control and may affect timing, but here too we've allowed for wiggle room to make the timing of our goal achievable.

SUSTAINABILITY

Can we make this a sustainable system and not just a one-time order for local farmers?

Although initial costs for ingredients may be higher than what we pay now, as we scale up we anticipate bringing down the price for raw materials. For farmers who use sustainable practices and are able to grow their businesses based on our growth in popularity, we anticipate that a sustainable system can be created.

To truly become sustainable, we need to keep growing and create a constant demand for producers and make it so pricing allows us to run a profitable company that is supporting self-sustaining urban and rural farms. Our plan is to continue to grow sales and distribution in independent markets as well as large natural foods retailers like Whole Foods Market. If you look at our Facebook page, you'll see people from all over the country wanting to get Chuice in a retail store close to them. Some of these people haven't even tried Chuice yet and some are based overseas!

We also have an opportunity to grow sales through a direct-to-consumer eCommerce market. Since our focus till now has been on local retail growth, we have not developed our eCommerce capability as much as we like. We do plan to change our digital platform in the next month so it is more up to date, and capable of supporting what we hope will be a new movement for packaged foods. With success, we can make the shipping costs more affordable than they are now.

Thank you for your support! Eat Chuice and thrive.
