Greetings my fellow spellslingers!
Last year I had attempted to bring this product to fruition, but unfortunately the campaign did not meet its goal. However, the amount of interest and support I had received encouraged me to give this another shot. So to all my old supporters thank you and welcome back!
Scrollplay: The Deckbox and Playmat Combo
The Scrollplay is, at its core, a patent pending deckbox that also holds and deploys a playmat.
The interior deckbox component is comprised of 3 separated compartments with magnetically latched lids. Each of the compartments is capable of comfortably storing 75 sleeved cards or a bag of dice or a clutch of precious gemstones stolen from a dragon's lair.
The bottom of the deckbox has a set of three magnets that allow the box to snap and center on a set of corresponding magnets embedded in the bottom edge of the playmat.
Once positioned correctly, the mat and container can be rolled up in a manner much like a scroll, which is aided by the cylindrical shape of the container.
Magnets embedded on the other side of the mat will then snap onto the existing stack of magnets in order to create the final easily transportable package.
Deploying is simply the reverse. Setup consists simply of setting the scroll down on the table, rolling the container out in one smooth motion, and opening the compartments to retrieve your deck and other necessary accessories.
To increase the portability, threaded inserts have been inserted into the ends of the scroll, which allows for straps or other devices to be installed on the ends.
Please see the add-on section for more details about straps.

So create a custom container showing off your favorite guild or khan colors!
The playmats for the Scrollplay are standard 14" x 24" playmats that have been modified with thin magnets embedded on the bottom. Please note all mats will have masking dots where the magnets will be. See the white mat for size and placement.
For minimalists we have black mats (not shown. use your imagination) and white mats.
Five playmats depicting the elemental land types from Magic were painted by Jess Triska of Trideka Designs.
For the fans of Yu Gi Oh, I have a mystical playmat containing Pendulum color accents and elemental attributes contained within spell circles.
For all add-ons, please add the amount listed to your pledge amount. Your options will be recorded in the survey given at the end of the campaign.
Having a strap makes transporting the Scrollplay easier. I have put together a few options that I think should be able to satisfy most people's needs. Only one strap can be added on per Scrollplay.
Strap 1: The Half Strap ($9)
The first strap, and my personal favorite is the half strap loop.
In the half strap configuration, the scroll has only one D-Ring screwed in, and using a carabiner and a short nylon webbing strap with D rings on the ends allows for quick detachment and reattachment.
Strap 2: The Duffel Strap ($10)
The 2nd strap is a long fixed length strap I have called the duffel strap.
This strap configuration consists of a two foot long strap with quick disconnect ends that attach to D-Rings screwed to either end of the scroll.
Strap 3: The Adjustable Strap ($14)
The 3rd strap is a quickly adjustable strap.
This strap configuration is similar to that of the duffel strap, but the strap itself can be adjusted between 3 and 6 feet and the clips are plastic and swivel-able.
Just the D-Rings ($4)
Have your own fancy strap? This add-on is just for 2 D-Rings installed on either end of your scroll.
Set of Six Magnets ($3)
A set of 6 to be used as replacements or, if you are so inclined, to be used to modify your own personal mats. However this is only recommended for the more crafty individuals who are confident in their skill.
Additional Playmat with Magnets ($15)
For those players who just want a backup, an additional mat with embedded magnets. Only one additional playmat per Scrollplay.
Additional Playmats [For $10 pledge level only] ($10 each)
For the $10 pledge level, you can add up to 4 extra mats (total of five). Just add on $10 per extra mat.
So what is different in this campaign? First, I have located a new injection molder with better rates which has driven the cost down somewhat. Second and most importantly, this campaign is to receive funds to put towards the raw materials only. I have gone ahead and sunk my personal funds into the molds to have them made so that part is no longer a concern.
So thank you for your consideration and support!
Risks and challenges
I have tried my best to limit the risk by consolidating vendors and number of parts. One minor risk that might pop up is unexpected complications with the mold making process or injection molded parts, which may require further machining depending on the quality.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
