About this project
This is an uplifting story about a 'magic' bracelet with a mysterious past and mystical powers that ultimately link two teenagers, Angela (Hailee Steinfeld) and Ashley (Bailee Madison) and their make-shift families. Ashley, with a cheese-obsessed dog (Surf Dog Ricochet) in tow, has visions of finding a cure for her life-threatening illness. The initial story was written by fifteen-year-old Rina Goldberg, who unfortunately lost her valiant battle with Mitochondrial Disease in December 2010. Some of her parting words to her mother before she passed were "Promise you'll take care of my film." It is with great pride that Make A Film Foundation (MAFF) will be able to grant Rina's wish and share her voice and vision. The first $20,000 has been raised but we need 15,000 more to make this dream a reality.
It's All Systems Go as we are currently in pre-production and we can't wait to share this exciting journey with our supporters.
Our goal upon completion is to give The Magic Bracelet a life on the festival circuit and arrange a limited local theatre run in Los Angeles. Additionally we will host a red carpet screening here in Hollywood with Rina's parents in attendance as the Guests of Honor.
A Word from Director Jon Poll (Charlie Bartlett, Responsible Adults)
"I'm very proud to be able to help Rina's dream of making ‘The Magic Bracelet’ into a film come true. Rina's saying goes "Always Love Life, Dream Big and Be Positive". She lived her life by that example, and it is something she can share with others by this film being made. Diablo Cody wrote a charming and witty script based on Rina's feature length screenplay I'm excited to be working with very talented young actresses Hailee Steinfeld and Bailee Madison playing the two main leads.”
Risks and challenges
There are always risks when making a film and The Magic Bracelet is no exception. We've arranged award winning cast and crew who bring their experience, passion and vision to this film but we are full steam ahead in pre-production for a mid-December shoot and we run the risk of not reaching our goal and subsequently not receiving any of the completion funds accrued.
It has been challenging coordinating schedules of cast and crew since many people also hold full-time jobs and this continues to be a challenge we overcome as we finish locking the production staff and talent.
We are still locking the following production necessities and our budgetary constraints are creating challenges so if you're still reading about our project and have connections to any of the following for an In-Kind Donation please contact us:
-airline tickets for Rina Goldberg's parents and Ricochet the Surfing Dog and her trainer *an excellent use for those extra miles
-3 star or above hotel accommodations for the Goldberg's and Ricochet and trainer
-makeup and wardrobe trailers for the talent
-transportation service for the talent
-we also want to be certain we are feeding our crew with the highest quality nourishment and foods possible since many of them are working for free, so any 4-5 star catering or craft services would provide the needed boosts in energy for the long hours we have ahead of us.
We intend to overcome these challenges by continuing to pursue In-Kind Donations from corporations and local businesses as well as generating the money necessary to purchase or rent these items in a more traditional exchange.
We are honored to put your money or donations to good use and you may rest assured that whatever risks or challenges arise will be overcome in the name of Rina's Magic Bracelet.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
