Reviews and pictures!
I hope this message finds all of you in the best of health and spirits. So looking forward to spring and summer!!!
I just wanted to share a few of the stories and reviews for the book. It's been hard getting the word out but the stories are coming in slow and steady. I have a long list of people that I follow up with regularly and will continue to do so. The piece on Jamaicans.com took five months to happen...I can be very persistent when I need to be. I LOVE our book and want everyone to know about it so I will continue to work hard on getting the word out. Not sure if you saw it but Walter Dean Myers wrote an Op Ed piece in the New York Times that really made me feel good about my decision to self publish the book. Check out the story here...it also made me realize how important it is for JpdR to be in the world! You can feel good about the fact that you are contributing to this terrible disparity...http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/16/opinion/sunday/where-are-the-people-of-color-in-childrens-books.html?_r=0
I have read the book in a few elementary schools and at a branch of the Oakland Public Library I had never been to before. Fellow author Aya de Leon (author of Puffy: People whose hair defies gravity) invited me to read with her. It was great. Ok, below is a list of a few of the stories to date and a few pics. If you follow me on Pinterest, I have a Justice pon di Road board post all of them there.
