Update #4

Posted by Aliona Gibson (Creator)

Just a quick note to let you know that we are relieved and happy that the Kickstarter campaign is over! We ended up being 110% funded by 157 backers for a total of $8827!

I sent all of the text to Inno Nagara at Design Action Collective. He will do the design and layout for the book. He is a really good person for this job. He self published his board book A is for Activist. He wrote and illustrated the book AND did the layout and design. It's a wonderful  award-winning book (there's a woman nursing a baby that could be me! and of course, J is for Justice). It was just released as a second edition by Seven Stories Press/Triangle Square. That is the dream for many self published authors. Now the book will be more widely available...and cheaper!

Check it out. It really is a beautiful book....

Once I get the acknowledgements done and to the proof reader we will send them to Inno and that part is over. Then I will focus on getting a list of places to send review copies. I started this list by finding blogs and sites who did reviews for Cedella Marley's book One Love. I thought those people might be interested in a book about Jamaica. Of course I am still putting together the rest of the list and before it's over will be sending out quite a few press kits. Between national and local media and blogs, I have my work cut out for me. I actually enjoy this part of the process.

I am waiting to get samples from A and I publishing in San Rafael (I got samples but the wrong size!) but I think I am set on using our local printing company in West Oakland, PS Print. They do great work.

Thanks again for your support and have a great rest-of-the-week!
