About this project
Who am I?
My name is Brian and I am a Mechanical Engineer with 6 years of product design experience. A few months ago I received a GoPro action camera. I was instantly hooked. Its mounting versatility, unmatched durability, and stunning image quality were key features I admired. I went on a filming spree, mounting it anywhere I could, but eventually I hit a roadblock.
I wanted to mount my GoPro to my car, but found the only options were overpriced bulky, unsecured suction cups that required preparing a clean, dry, smooth mounting area. Immediately I thought, "There has to be a better way than this."
As a mechanical engineer, I was able to use sophisticated CAD modeling software and a rapid prototyping 3D printer to create the solution to the suction cup problem: The Window-Wedge.
What is it?
The Window-Wedge is a plastic clamp with two standard GoPro mountings designed to slip over your automobile window (Think of a car flag for a sports team!). When you roll up your window, the Window-Wedge is pinched between the window and gasket. For an extremely secure fit. The Window-Wedge is mountable for either interior or exterior viewing, and installation takes only a few seconds. Best of all the mount can be used in any kind of weather condition because your car window is in the up position!
How does it work?
Simply attach your GoPro to either of the two mounts (top for outside mounting & bottom for inside mounting), roll your car window down halfway, and slide the clip over the window. Adjust your GoPro's filming settings and roll your window up. The mount is securely locked in place, and you're ready to film!
So, when can I get mine?
I have completed the design of the Window-Wedge using SolidWorks and printed several prototypes using a state of the art 3D printer. My next step is to have an injection-molding tool created so that the Window-Wedge can be brought to life for the masses.

Risks and challenges
As a degreed engineer, I have experience in the design process. I have designed and produced several injection-molded parts, and I have a working understanding of the requirements and pitfalls of plastic part design. Hence drawing upon my past design experience, and understanding of best practice procedures I am extremely confident in the manufacturing feasibility and set delivery date of the Window-Wedge.
That being said there is always a potential for minor and or major set backs.
