About this project
Tech companies are constantly trying to build their brands and name recognition and the investment is well worth it. Within the realm of college recruiting, having a strong brand reputation means a higher volume of applicants and perhaps high quality applicants as well! If you work at a smaller company though, you don’t have as many resources as a large company like Google and you don’t have the time to reach out to potential college candidates. Where are you supposed to start when it comes to reaching out to college students anyways?
Introducing Brandpackers - making your brand and company go viral on college campuses. We partner with real college students and train them to be brand ambassadors for your company. They'll leverage their local influence on social media and on campus to make sure that students discover your company! No one knows a university better than students!
What are brand ambassadors?
Top companies like Google and Microsoft have a secret trick for creating a high quality hiring pipelines and consistent positive brand exposure. The trick? Empowering students nationally with the voice of their brand, labelling such individuals as “ambassadors.”
Utilizing the secret formula of these top firms, our network of trained students are experts on promoting your brand in their given environment. Instead of the infrastructure for such exposure being limited to only a few large companies, our network enables all companies and individuals to run grassroots campaigns at a reasonable cost through our national student network known as our “brand ambassadors.”
Top companies chose to create their ambassador networks within colleges because this demographic are the upcoming consumers and employees of the next generation.
Focusing on students is a great way to create a pipeline of new workers ready to join your company’s task force, while at the same marketing to the upcoming consumers who will likely be purchasing or interacting with your product and brand.
How we know it works
We performed a service enactment involving real tech companies as well as real students and found that students were highly effective at marketing to their peers. On one occasion, a student ambassador was able to reel in over 500 clicks! The company actually received several application for their jobs and they were able to secure several interviews.
How It Works
Company representatives can sign up for an account with Brandpackers, giving them access to a set of tools that makes running a campaign easier than running an online ad - and more effective as well!
After your company is registered with Brandpackers, you can start a campaign by selecting the universities you want to target as well as the types of student you want to target. You then select one of the packages below:
- Tier 1 - 100 credits; Social media campaigns
- Tier 2 - 500 credits; Flyering and tier 1 benefits
- Tier 3 - 1000 credits; Chalking and tier 2 benefits
- Tier 4 - 2500 credits; Classroom visits and tier 3 benefits
- Tier 5 - 5000+ credits (custom plan); Events and tier 4 benefits
We'll charge you a certain amount of credits for each activity the students ambassadors perform. For example, 1 click on a social media campaign will equate to 1 credit.
Once you've paid and sent us your company information and materials, Brandpackers will select student ambassadors that best align with your requirements. We'll make sure that your ambassadors are the most qualified individuals to reach out to your target audience.
Your ambassadors will use their expert knowledge of campus to put together an effective marketing campaign for you based on your specifications. They'll take advantage of the most effective methods of communication to their peers such as posting in targeted social media groups, handing out flyers, writing announcements on classroom chalkboards, and creating custom crafted events tailored to your needs. To keep you informed of their progress, you'll receive real time updates and reports as students complete their tasks.
During career fairs at UCSD, our team noticed that an alarming amount of our fellow design and engineering students were flocking to the large tech companies with a strong brand reputation. Meanwhile, smaller companies and even mid-sized companies with a less prevalent brand presence were being overlooked even though they still offered great career and internship opportunities. Furthermore, we felt like there needed to be a better way to connect with companies - a more personal way that benefited both students and companies. However, we knew that personal connections cost both time and money. Our solution to this was Brandpackers!
Our team is composed of 4 students all from a design background.
Ryan Hill is a 3rd year computer science student. He is also studying business as part of his minor and is extremely active in the entrepreneurship community across the UC campus system.
Jessica Kwen is a 3rd year international studies student who also has strong cognitive science background. She is an active member of the design community and is a student leader in the Asian & Pacific-Islander Student Association.
Joseph Le is a 3rd year cognitive science student. While he’s studying design, he has a software engineering background and will be serving as our main developer for Brandpackers. Joseph has also had several startups before.
Vivian Lee is a 3rd year cognitive science student with an extensive background in visual design. She has held multiple design internships and is an active leader on campus.
How the Funding will be used
We plan to ramp up development of our platform in the next 6 months and we need your help funding it! While our team has a strong technical and design background, we require funding to be able to sustain ourselves to allow us to continue working on developing the product as well as the business. We also need to cover many of the start up costs of running an on-demand business such as ours, such as legal fees and background checks. Below, you can see an overview of where the costs will be spent.
Risks and challenges
We are confident that the risks in bringing the Brandpackers experience to market will be minimal.
Our team has the talent, skills, experience, and expertise needed to overcome any obstacles should they arise. Collectively, our network of brand representatives spans over the nation, providing a strong initial infrastructure to begin with our exposure campaigns. With minimal technical needs, yet an overwhelming strong technical background, the application development will be able design an application and push relevant updates to allow for remotely managing your brand campaign. Our rich history in event production, recruiting programs, and other brand related exposure totals in years and millions of dollars of experience. We are the team for the job, in a market that still has no scalable infrastructure for consistent grassroots marketing.
Although we have a strong team, there could be unforeseen delays in development. Additionally, all members of our team are currently students and are planning to take on full time internships this summer. As such, our project may encounter delay as we adjust to our workloads over the summer. During the school year, we're also full time students which may take away from time we can spend on the project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
