Triskelion Space Tabletop RPG (Canceled)
A standalone tabletop RPG using the bestselling Exodus System rules. This is a brand new setting in an epic space opera universe.
Welcome to Triskelion Space!
Do you have a craving for old-school space opera stories that feature larger-than-life men and women forming rag-tag bands of heroes and overcoming impossible odds? Then Triskelion Space is the game for you.
Based on my best-selling Exodus System RPG rules, Triskelion Space expands the main game into something more expansive. There are brand new rules for equipment, starships, enhanced combat and much more.
What is the Exodus System RPG?
The Exodus System is based on a foundation that's rooted in old-school games, but with modern innovations. Character creation is fast and simple, as is creating NPCs, starships, and planets. Combat is fast and furious. Everything's designed to allow a GM to prep for a game just a few minutes before the players arrive for a session.
What is Triskelion Space?
Triskelion Space is a game of action-filled, optimistic pulp sci-fantasy space opera. It's a world where the lowliest laborer can rise to the greatest heights of glory, where Star Mystics wield unfathomable power for good or ill, where a rag-tag bunch of forest dwellers riding on beasts have equal footing against invading stellar marines. It is a world under threat from a secret invasion. Can you unify the galaxy to stand fast against the merciless onslaught?
The Triskelion is a dwarf galaxy far from our own. It has three radiating arms. Our story concerns the denizens of the South Arm. The species of the Triskelion range from humans to sentient transforming machines, animal-like beastmen, and more exotic forms of life.
Near the center of the Triskelion, the Corona, is the Heart Region, a section of space controlled by the Southern Supremacy and its Eternal Empress. The Heart Region is a civilized place where the elite enjoy unparalleled luxury while the lower classes labor away every day under the boot of Supreme Shocktroopers.
A small Nexus connects the Heart to the Fringe Region. Here the Supremacy's authority is much weaker, and the inhabitants are free to do as they please. This attracts the most dangerous elements of society, and the worlds of this region are overrun with criminal enterprises. It's from here that the growing Insurgency is making its first moves to restore the liberties of all citizens in the South Arm.
The Outer Region is a dangerous place. The worlds on the outermost edge of this arm tend to be hellish places that don't support normal life. Of course there are legends and rumors of untold wealth, power and adventure to be had on worlds where none have ever dared to tread.
Each of the Arms of the Triskelion is separated from one another by the black expanse of space. The areato the West is called the Black Sea, and the space to the east of this arm is called the Audient Void. These starless areas of space are filled with navigational hazards. Fewer than one ship in a thousand that attempts a journey through the Black Sea or the Audient Void returns to tell of their travels. The few who do refuse to speak of the worst horrors that they've found there.
For this game I took a lot of inspiration from space opera books, films, shows and video games, especially from the 80s and the 90s. These include the same films that you're probably thinking of right now, but also such crazy gems as Starchaser: The Legend of Orin, Starcrash, Bucky O'Hare, Metalstorm the Destruction of Jared Syn, Titan A.E. and many more.
I've got a soft spot for B-movies, but I also like mainstream media. Triskelion Space isn't cheesy or campy, but earnest and imaginative. The goal is to hit all of the dramatic beats of the best that space opera and science fantasy have to offer, while presenting a new universe for you to explore.
How Does It Play?
The game is simple to explain and easy to play. You start with the Exodus System's popular character creation process. In lots of games you're restricted to a specific, predefined class. With these rules you create your own class (in minutes), by selecting a Combat Role, a Party Role and two Flavors.
The combat Role defines your effectiveness in a fight and your Party Role provides useful abilities that apply outside of combat. This ensures that every character can have a moment to shine, both with the blasters are firing or when it's time to use your noggin. Your two Flavors give you abilities that make the game more interesting. The current Flavors include:
- Ace Pilot
- Bounty Hunter
- Cosmic Voyager
- Star Mystic
- Star Warrior
- Alien Brute
- Flux Ravager
- And more
Your Attributes are all rated in dice values, and each time you perform an action or attack, you roll your Attribute against the Action Die of an NPC enemy, trap, hazard or other condition. If you roll higher, you succeed.
Wanna make a spaceship? It's just as easy as making a character. Just start with a set of base stats, apply two Roles and adjust the stats. Then choose a starship mod or two, plus any weapons that you can equip, and you're ready to fly!
Click this link to find an example of how easy it is to make a ship:
I wrote this game with simplicity in mind. I was going to GM a group and everyone lost enthusiasm when it took so long to create a character. I didn't like how long it took to create a custom spaceship using that system, either. Thus, development started on the Exodus System.
Do you have very little time to prepare? No worries. It takes just a roll of the dice or two to come up with an interesting and unique NPC. Or you can use the included stat table to derive fast statistics for mooks and other background characters.
There are also rules for quickly making up loot items, dungeon rooms, traps and more. Each of the random tables are designed to fit on a single page (or as close to that as possible), and to resolve in just one or two dice rolls.
Now there's no need to spend three hours a night between sessions statting up your encounters and trying to come up with ideas for alien bases to raid. Give yourself an hour or less before the group comes over and you can get all of your paperwork for an adventure done ahead of time.
Nexus Station Backer Campaign
Nexus Station is either the last bulwark defending the Fringe Region from the encroaching Supremacy, or the last civilized place before the South Arm gives way to the wilds of the Fringe, depending on to whom you're speaking.
Nexus Station sits at the chokepoint where the Heart Region meets the Fringe, and it's one of the most strategically valuable and most visited places in the galaxy. Officially neutral, Nexus Station is a haven for traders, smugglers, diplomats, criminals, travelers and scholars.
Now YOU have the chance to help tell its story. Periodically throughout the campaign, we're going to give you, the backers, a series of quests. These might include writing up a very short description of a person or place within Nexus Station, describing one of the political factions that calls it home, or something else. All you have to do is follow the directions, usually involving a social media post, and once the quest is over we'll pick the most interesting eligible post to include in the official writeup of Nexus Station!

David Okum Minis
From the internet's most high-profile paper mini creator comes a set of character minis designed for use in the Triskelion Space core book's starter adventure, and for the rest of your campaign. At the second David Okum stretch goal he's going to produce starships for exciting outer space battles.
Note that this is David's video for his Patreon page. The figures in that video aren't what we're unlocking. The first set of stretch goal minis is based on characters from the "Crucible of Blood" adventure in the core rulebook. After that the options include ships and more.
Tabletop Audio Soundtrack
Tim from Tabletop Audio is on board to create a soundtrack for your Triskelion Space adventures. The first track complements the introductory scenario in the Triskelion Space, and at higher levels his work is going to highlight the environment of another one of the South Arm's worlds.
This introductory box is going to be large enough to hold your book, plus a three-panel GM screen with handy rules references printed on the inside. If unlocked, this box is going to be available after the campaign, when we have enough art come in. You don't pay for it now, but rather get an at-cost price (I make no money from the sale). The final price depends on how many components we unlock for it.
Every good space RPG line has a starship splat, and this is ours. It's going to be packed with dozens of new ships, each with gorgeous full-color pictures, complete stats and more. Not only that, but we're also including MORE options for custom ship creation, adventure hooks, and space encounters. Rumor has it that we might even include rules for competitive tabletop minis play!
The art that I'm commissioning from Matt Bulahao for the interior is going to be available as a series of add-ons. If we hit the $20,000 mark everyone gets a free pack of artwork that they can use in their own publications or GM handouts! The art packs are only available to backers. After the book comes out I will put the individual pictures up for sale as stock art to support Matt Bulahao.
Social Media and Backer Goals
These goals aren't tied to a specific dollar amount, but to backer achievements
If we get 500+ retweets of this tweet, and the Thunderegg Productions Twitter account ends this campaign with more than 250 followers, then everyone gets a free PDF of one deck of their choice for home printing. See the Add-Ons section below for more info. Note that if you want the print code for a physical copy, then you'll still need to get the Add-On.
Should the number of backers exceed 500, and if we've unlocked the Beginner Box, then the Beginner Box gets its first upgrade. Besides coming with a box for your book and a GM screen, it's also going to have the introductory adventure from the core book "Crucible of Blood", printed as a booklet. This way you can keep your book open to the rules that you need while keeping place in the adventure.
As we unlock social media and backer goals, we'll announce the next goals down the line. Make sure to participate in this campaign as much as you can to make it a complete success.
What's a game without fun accessories? Here are some add-ons that you can use to upgrade your experience and make gameplay even more streamlined. Noe that the price of these add-ons includes both a PDF copy and a discounted print code that gets you a physical copy for less than the price of retail.
Deluxe Character Folios- $5
The folios are available in multiple varieties, each with an iconic cover featuring artwork either used in the core book or created especially for the folios. Inside this slim book you get a convenient rules reference for combat and task resolution. Players don't have to stop play to pass the core book around the table now that they have a copy of the most commonly referenced sections. There are also multiple character sheets so you can use a folio throughout the entire campaign.
A single purchase of this add-on gets you PDFs and print codes for for all of the folios released through this campaign. As with the game books, your codes don't expire, so you can get as many copies of each of them as you need. Here's an example cover, themed after the Supremacy faction:
And here's the Insurgency faction folio:
Art Packs- $10
I'll be announcing the makeup of these packs during the campaign, but each one is going to have multiple, full-color, painterly illustrations suitable for use in publications. These are all done by Matt Bulahao. He's the artist who painted the ships in the image of the top of the page. I've also hired him for other projects. Here's some of the samurai artwork that I've had him do for me:
Each of these decks 60-card decks is designed to make combat run faster or to inspire a GM with creative block
NPC/Enemy Deck- $5
This deck is split into three sub-decks, each with a distinct back for easy separation. The first deck features cards hat are printed with base stats for an NPC. You can use just these cards as your NPC if you wish. Flip over the Abilities sub-deck to give your enemies a more powerful or interesting ability, and then flip over an Attack card to change how the NPC's base attacks work. There are thousands of combinations to make NPC creation more diverse and exciting.
Opposition/Encounters Deck- $5
Not sure what to throw against the party? Just flip one of these cards and use the results to introduce new and exciting story elements or encounters to the scene. They're have scene prompts, interesting characters to encounter, perilous ideas and more.
More to come!
About the Artists
Check out some of the very talented people that I'm hiring to work on Triskelion Space. Besides these fine folks I'm also using some preexisting pieces to keep production time reasonable.
I've already shown some of what Matt Bulahao has done for me. He's a fantastic artist out of the Philippines who is renowned for his speed and quality. Matt's done work for many different famous clients. You can see more of his profile here.
Dean is an artist with whom I've recently started working. His pictures are simply amazing. You might recognize the picture below as the cover from the first Exodus System book. Click the picture to see Dean's Patreon page.
David is going to provide a battlemap for the introductory adventure in the core book. He's also on board to create paper miniatures that you can use in your games. To see more of what he's done, check him out on Patreon.
Special thanks to astrophotographer Ken Crawford, whose incredible work is adorns some of the pages of this book (and the header of the KS page).
About the Author
Jacob DC Ross has worked in the RPG industry for nine years. He got his start with AEG's Legend of the Five Rings, moved on to Mongoose Traveller and Modiphius' Star Trek Adventures, and also publishes his own work.
Contributing author James M Spahn is an Origins and ENnie Award-winning author. His works include White Star, plus FFG's Star Wars line of RPGs as well as Middle Earth Roleplaying and The One Ring. I'm sure that he's going to put squirrels in this book. And that's okay.
Risks and challenges
I've run two RPG Kickstarter campaigns in past, both of which exceeded their funding goal. I delivered the main book of each well before the due date.
This project is more art-intensive than my others. I've hired two of the best artists in the industry, Matt Bulahao and Dean Spencer, for this project. Dean is taking the cover and Matt is doing interior pieces. This reduces the overall time that it takes to finish all of the art in the book.
Both of these artists work very quickly, but you never know when a personal crisis might interrupt productivity. Dean's cover could take anywhere from one to three months to finish, depending on his workload. Matt is the fastest artist with whom I've ever worked. I'm predicting between 50 and 70 pieces from him, which could take between four and six months.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
