Pop Fantastic - And His Autistic Superpowers (Canceled)
Follow Pop, a 6 year old autistic boy, on his journey through a magical world where his autism traits prove to be superpowers.
Pop looks like every other little boy, but he’s different.
Loud noises hurt Pop’s ears...
Being touched – especially his hair – can really hurt Pop
Pop loves to bounce and flap – it calms him down and makes him happy
And Pop often prefer to be alone
Pop is Autistic……
But what would happen if Pop found himself in a magical world where everything which makes him different here…
Is a SUPERPOWER there!
The Adventures of Pop Fantastic
The aim of the Pop Fantastic project is to create the world’s first series of children’s books which feature a child with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) as the main character.
This Kickstarter campaign will focus on the first book in the Pop Fantastic series, chronicling the adventures of Pop, a six-year old autistic boy, as he journeys into a magical world in which his autistic traits are turned into superpowers.
For example, in our world Pop has an almost photographic memory when it comes to his vast collection of story books - in our magical world this will serve to help him memorise complex magical spells and incantations others are unable to learn.
Also Pop’s ‘stimming’ whereby he flaps his arms so as to calm and relax himself, will see him able to fly higher and faster than any bird in the sky.
Risks and challenges
Like millions of other children my son Oliver (Pop as we call him) is autistic, yet despite recently released figures that suggest 1 in 45 children fall somewhere within the autistic spectrum, the majority of people still don’t understand what it means to be autistic.
The aim of this project is to portray autism in a positive light and hopefully provide any autistic readers (as well as their families and friends) with a character to which they can identify and whom they enjoy following on his journey.
An additional goal of Pop Fantastic is to increase both awareness and acceptance of autism worldwide.
Ultimately these books are aimed at helping people with autism feel more special, whilst helping others understand what it’s like to have autism. People often fear or mock what they don’t understand and I’d love nothing more than to see a world where my son and children like him have an easier time in life - after all; they face enough challenges already...
The pledges are on the right hand side so please take the time to have a look and help me spread the message.
