great idea guys!!! run with it. heck you might get enough backing to make an actual book depending on how the e-book sells

    3. Alex Ruiz on August 4, 2014

It would be cool if you examined some mods in particular and how they grown for example Thuamcraft has been completely reworked or even industrialcraft has had a huge change i would get something like this as well as everything else it adds is also cool

    4. Tevin Rice on July 21, 2014

Looks pretty awesome and I will totally donate if this goes live, but I'd like a donate tier that includes a hardback copy of the book. Could that be a thing?

    5. James Hampton on November 19, 2013

You guys got a good line up though I can make some suggestions about some people who could make a good contribution. There's:

Captain Sparklez he has done some pretty interesting stuff on Youtube including some parody songs of Taio Cruz's Dynamite, Coldplay's Viva la vida using Maya animation software to create a Minecraft world look music video and he's got some popular Survival Games videos.[Survival Games were inspired by The Hunger Games if you need some clarity]

The Yogs Cast team, I don't know much but they go about testing mods and other vanilla creations to the extreme in a funny way

The people behind the Technic Launcher are genius's as they created a game launcher that will install a selected modpack without the long arduous task of installing it yourself which is perfect for new players

Plus you could get some pretty good insight by finding some artists who play the game because with this game there's no limits and their work is in the realm of the gods and can sometimes even dwarf the multiplayer server creations.

Also you could try and start a forum to get different understandings of the game from other players point of views as I myself see it as world you can escape into that is without limits, there's nothing that can't be done it just requires you to imagine it and make it come alive before your eyes.

Thanks for actually creating a book project like this it could bring a wider understanding of the World of Minecraft to outsiders.

I see no mention of any of the games Minecraft took it's inspiration from.

Stop treating Minecraft like it was the first of it's kind.

    7. Solessin on September 23, 2013

Any chance the will be a physical copy of the book, or just an e-book?

    8. Wim Creuwels on June 8, 2013

I can tell that I'm still very interested!
Also thanks for the reply :D

Hi Wim! We're altering our main focus due to an increased interest in the more academic side of the project! Of course, we're aware that the target audience for an academic book on the culture and gameplay of Minecraft is considerably smaller than one dedicated purely to the mods and map-makers, so we've scaled the project and the target amount down somewhat to meet the revised version. We're almost ready to go live too. Currently we're contacting some amazing artists to contribute towards a series of A4 and A3 prints as bonus awards for our backers. So watch this space! :)

      Why suddenly so much changes?

About

Minecraft and The 8-Bit Scholar

Minecraft is a phenomenon. From the dark confines of Herobrine's mansion to the epic, sweeping tale of The Shadow of Israphel; Minecraft has given gamers a resource that few other games can even come close to matching. Minecraft gives you freedom.

What is The 8-Bit Scholar: The Genius of Minecraft?

We know that Minecraft is a deep game. Beneath the dirt blocks and the creepers lies a world rich with the potential for academic exploration. We want to create a book that speaks to the fans and players of the game - the community that has made Minecraft great - and to show some of the academic research that has come out of the game in an easy to access way that will cast Minecraft in a light you may never have considered before. As well as this, we will be examining some of the works that have been created in and around Minecraft, looking at the youtube sensations that have made a living playing the game, the worlds and maps that dwarf even the best efforts of professional map makers in modern games, as well as the mods and the modders themselves.

What Sort of Content will there be?

Delve into an epic remake of the Game of Thrones world. Explore the replica cities of World of Warcraft beautifully crafted in blocks. Experience the heart-wrenching tale of grief in Rythian's Black-Rock Tekkit series. Marvel at the mods that bring new creatures, electricity, industry and so much more to the vanilla Minecraft experience. And then, read intelligent articles about the game by our fantastic team of writers, all of whom are fans of Minecraft: articles that explore elements of Minecraft that blow the game wide open.

Our book will be rich with content discussing the academic and scientific side of Minecraft, while also examining the mods, maps, and community-created content that makes the game the industry changing behemoth it has become.

How Will Our Pledges be of Help?
