We created the Inception X1 to be unique. A 3D printer combining precision manufacturing with innovative British engineering and design. A 3D printer delivering uncompromised performance and reliability at an extremely competitive price. With the Inception X1, you can create almost anything you can imagine, from engineering prototypes and educational aids to figurines and toys, the possibilities are endless.
The Inception X1 utilises the exceptional quality of British manufacturing, comprising of an innovative yet simplistic design. Constructed from a precision CNC machined aluminium framework teamed with industrial grade components, the X1 provides a stable platform for high-quality and high-speed printing.
When designing the Inception X1 range, we placed a great deal of importance on expandability. Incorporating support for add-ons and upgrades into the X1's open source design broadens the potential future capabilities of the X1 platform.
The modified Core-XY configuration reduces moving mass and inertia, enhancing both print speed and quality. Employing quiet high-resolution stepper motors provides the X1 with a remarkable degree of accuracy, capable of producing objects of stunning quality and detail.
The Inception X1 range has one of the largest build volumes in its class bringing desktop 3D printing to a new level. This extra build capacity broadens your creative possibilities while removing the tedious task of splitting objects down into smaller pieces.
The Inception X1 Duo also has one of the largest dual extrusion build volumes, providing soluble support, multi-material or dual colour printing on a larger scale than ever before.
Despite the X1's large build volume, the footprint remains relatively small, allowing for placement on any desk or workbench. With an insulated print chamber, large objects can be printed with minimal warping or splitting between layers
The Inception X1 platform utilises an open filament system, supporting a wide variety of materials ranging from regular PLA and ABS to more exotic materials such as Polycarbonate, Nylon and PETG. For composites such a Woodfill or CarbonFill we recommend using a hardened nozzle for consistent long-term printing.
At Inception Machines we accept nothing but the best, which is why the X1 range uses precision E3D hot ends, manufactured in the UK and renowned for their superb quality and proven reliability. Featuring interchangeable nozzles ranging from 0.2mm for fine details, all the way up to 0.8mm for large layer heights and short print times.
To save desk space, both filament spools have been placed internally on ultra smooth dual bearing spool holders. Each spool is easily accessible and supports a broad range of spool sizes up to 1kg, for larger spools, an external holder is available.
When printing in multiple colours or materials contamination can be a real issue. With the Inception X1, we implemented a quick nozzle cleaning routine performed at the start of each print or when switching nozzles. This combined with our tilting dual extruder provides the cleanest possible prints that require minimal finishing.
Here at Inception Machines, we believe in giving back to the 3D printing community, which is why all of the Inception X1’s hardware and software is fully open source.
The X1’s hardware has been designed using Autodesk Fusion 360, an entirely free professional CAD/CAM software package available to any hobbyist, student or educator. Fusion 360’s ease of use allows you to create custom add-ons and modifications safe in the knowledge that they will fit perfectly first time. Currently in development, our innovative tilting dual extrusion head, re-defines multi-material 3D printing producing virtually endless possibilities. By tilting the nozzle away, it removes any potential contamination, resulting in precise and crisp dual colour prints. Compared to multi-axis or colour mixing printers, the tilting head reduces print times significantly.

Risks and challenges
There are always risks and challenges associated with launching a new product, despite this, we are incredibly confident in our highly experienced team's ability to deliver an outstanding printer. Our fully functional Mk IV prototype has been put through its paces over hundreds of hours of printing, refining every aspect of it working delivering exceptional results.
Due to manufacturing a large percentage of the components in-house, we remove many of the delays suppliers could present. Potential setbacks could arise from the outsourcing of the electronics and PCB manufacture.
