Hiya, I'm Paul and I founded Power Plant.
We started making small batches of organic eggplant jerky a year ago, and now we're scaling up all areas of production.
I grew up in Minnesota and now live in Los Angeles. I was a co-founder of the internationally touring indie-band Free Energy. Now I'm applying everything I learned to the world of natural foods.
I tried eggplant jerky at a friend's potluck and it blew my mind. Six months later I volunteered at a biodynamic farm that just happened to have an abundant eggplant harvest; I brought home the extras and worked on my own recipes.
Soon after I rented space at a community kitchen and made small batches to sell. I hand-stamped blank bags using custom rubber stamps and an ink pad.
But this ultimately isn't about me, is it?
It's about reducing animal agriculture and the commensurate suffering that is inflicted upon millions upon millions of living, feeling, intelligent beings.
It's about reducing climate change. And it's about healing our bodies. Because the mainstream western diet is killing us. It's killing our friends and our family members. Cancer, diabetes, heart disease, allergies, immune disease, you name it. IT ALL COMES BACK TO FOOD.
And that's why I am on a mission to create awareness and raise funds for this delicious, plant-based alternative to beef jerky:
We just started working with the incredible Rainbow Natural Group co-packing facility in Los Angeles. It's perfect for making eggplant jerky. But to make this product work, I need to purchase ingredients in bulk quantities.
And with your generous support the next phase of Power Plant's growth will include purchasing organic eggplants from local farms using fair trade practices, as well as ordering bulk organic ingredients to reduce production time, raw costs, and waste.
Additionally we will invest in updated, custom packaging. This will save time in production, reduce raw material costs, and increase sales and visibility.
I feel confident asking for your support because all my years hustling in Free Energy (collaborating, touring, shaking hands, designing album covers, screenprinting teeshirts, creating websites, producing music videos, etc) makes me uniquely qualified to bring an inspired and unconventional voice to the natural foods world through Power Plant.
I feel blessed to be given this incredible opportunity to serve others through a product that aims to reduce animal agriculture, heal the planet, and nurture our bodies through a plant-based diet.
With your generous support I will continue to grow this company and our vision.
Thank you very much!

What's the money for?
- Packaging set-up costs (printing plates for each color) and initial production order. We need to order a large quantity of bags to get the per-unit price low.
- Bulk purchase of organic bbq sauce, organic sriracha, organic teriyaki and other organic ingredients. Once again we need to buy in bulk in order to get a competitive price.
- Commitment with distributor to buy weekly bulk quantities of organic eggplant.
- Legal counsel
- Business and product insurance

Risks and challenges
Printing isn't always an exact science, so I'm working with a world-class printing company, Belmark, who are smart and have been helpful every step of the way. They're also fellow midwesterners.
Produce distribution and logistics is a wild world. But I'm forging connections with organic produce distributors who believe in supporting local agriculture using fair trade practices. With your support, I'll be able to invest in these relationships to make it beneficial for all involved parties.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
