The Turf is a fast-paced take on the RTS genre. The aim is to control your gang to capture and defend the turf around the environment. This can be gun shops, hospitals, police stations, car dealers and more. These are all functional buildings, so you can equip units with various guns, equipment or buy cars.
- Platforms: PC (Steam, DRM Free, Others Announced Later)
- Website: www.mggames.co.uk
- Release Date: August 2016 (Beta), January 2017 (Release)
- Single-player story mode and skirmish
- Fast paced RTS game-play
- Lethal and non-lethal abilities (arrest or shoot)
- Themed levels (city, forest, suburban)
- Buildings (Gun store, shops, hospital, police, car store and more)
- Gang customisation
- Controller + keyboard/mouse support
- Plus more!
The turf plays a lot like your standard RTS games but with a few key differences.
Pre-set Buildings: This allows very frantic and fast game-play as you are constantly battling over key buildings with the rival gangs to ensure you can keep upgrading your units.
Building Types: Each of these buildings features something different such as guns, health stations, money, vehicles and more. Once you capture the building you can then use the building to improve your gang to try and gain the upper hand on your opponent.
Interior & Exterior Fighting: Fight in the streets and then take the action inside to have intense fights as you try to capture the turf!
Police Stations: Equip your units with hand cuffs. Then arrest the rival gang members and lock them up in your police station! You will get bounty money, if your enemy unit has killed any members.
There will be many more planned features but I hope this gives you a introduction to some of the features that I am implementing in the turf.
I have self-funded the project so far for the past 4 months. I have created most of the main game-play mechanics and have created many tools in unity for building levels very quickly. The entire game works based on a tile system. I can create buildings using tile peices. These tile peices then form a big tile section (entire buildings, gardens etc) that i can place in different levels to build up a city quickly.
You can play the demo above and get a feel for how the final game will play. Just bare in mind there is still alot of areas that need improving which is why i need your support to make it a polished product.
Main Areas to Improve:
- Unit artificial intelligence (AI)
- Improved movement so they don't just walk straight and turn
- Improved local avoidance for avoiding each other
- Character art and animation
- Bug fixing and optimisation
I will be using some of the money for 3 characters. These characters will be customizable so you can change clothing, hats and colours. The 3 main base unit types will be heavy man (more health), tall skinny man (fast speed), curvy woman (mid-range stats). I really want to make the game diverse with many skin colours and a range of body types that are more realistic in the world.
If we hit 100% target then these are some of the great features that we can achieve!
Kickstarter is an excellent opportunity for me as it's a way to interact with my fan-base and create a game that is made for the players. I want everyone that pledges to really help shape the game and create something that is truly special.
I have been developing games since I was 12 years old (currently 24). I have worked creating many HL2 modifications and within the last 8 years i have been developing many games. A few of my recent games i have released include Esper 2 (Oculus launch title), Bounce! (PC) and Galaxy Shift (PC). I have industry experience of being a game-play programmer.
I have made the entire game from scratch solo so far, so I have created all the art, code, user interface, website etc. If I can reach the target I will be hiring a freelance character artist and animator as this is an area I struggle at. If I gain the stretch goals the team will scale larger as I fill in my roles, so I can concentrate more on the programming side of the game.
Thank you for all the support for the game!. I'm making this game for you, so it means a lot to get such great feedback from my community.
This is my dream job making my own games for a living. Your support will change my life and make me very happy!
Help spread the word!
Risks and challenges
I intend to release the game in early 2017 but the beta version will be around august 2016. There is many risks when developing games and this might affect the release date.
I will do my best to stay on schedule and create the best possible game that i can. I can't predict the future but we currently have a playable game now that is fun to play. So you will always get a game to play. I will use all my skills I have learned to get this game to you on time.
The game will only be released once it's completed and polished. I don't rush games out. I like to polish them so they have no bugs and run fast on many PCs. I will keep everyone up to date during the development on how things are going and I am always grateful for all of your support during development!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
