"Rocks" wins 2 awards at Karlovy Vary!
I just got back from Karlovy Vary International Film Festival where "Rocks In My Pockets" had it's World Premiere on July 7th, 2014, 20:00 local time at 1200 seat Grand Hall. Since not all the rocks had found a place in the film, I took 6 leftover rocks with me to the stage and after introduction threw them into the audience. If you are on Facebook you can see the video HERE.
Despite controversial reports, there were no injuries. The rocks were made of paper mache (paper from old The New York Times) and each of the 6 audience members who caught a rock will be lucky in love for the next 27 years starting from that moment on.
For me the premiere was a nerve wracking experience. I was boiling in my own adrenaline, well cooked after the 88 min. Not sure if I'll ever fully recover from this.
Thank goodness the film's editor Wendy was there with me for support.
But "Rocks" was well received. Sharing the film with enthusiastic audiences in overcrowded movie theaters was a thrill. It even got really good reviews, including in the 2 most importnant film industry editions: Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
And the film got two awards: FIPRESCI Prize and Ecumenical Jury's Special Mention.
I feel elated - after 4 years of hard work and gnawing doubt there is finally an assurance that the film works and that it connects with audience.
The Latvian premiere of the film (in Latvian) will be on August 21st, in Riga.
"Rocks" English version will open in New York, at IFC Center on September 5th, and in LA on September 12th.
We'll deliver your secret link to the film after the theatrical run - most movie theaters do not work with films that are available online. Hope, you understand...
THANK YOU so much for your amazing support!
Lets keep in touch!
