About this project
A few years ago, a close friend told me she was sometimes afraid of the dark. So, to help calm her fears, I told her I knew a gnome named Glippy, and I had asked him to watch over and protect her at night. Then, I would leave little pictures of gnomes around her house with encouraging notes on them. Some I would leave in plain sight; some I would hide. They'd be in her refrigerator, on her pillow, in a coat pocket, under her toothbrush, and all sorts of other places. They would serve as little reminders that Glippy was looking out for her. I also made up tons of stories about Glippy's grand adventures to help my friend sleep a little easier. And thus, the legend of Glippy was born.
Now, I've written a children's book about one of Glippy's adventures, and with your help, it will be published. The book will be 50 pages of adventure illustrated by the award-winning, Dana Cohen.
In this story, Glippy's friend Glenda has been kidnapped by a vile beast, and he must embark on an epic journey to save her. But this isn't your typical "damsel in distress" story. In the end, Glenda turns out to be more than capable of taking care of herself.
As you can already tell, the art for the book is going to be amazing! To see more of Dana Cohen's work, check out her website:
Gabe Barrett runs a mission organization in Atlanta, GA that organizes and leads high school and college students to work with the homeless. He majored in English at Auburn University and really just loves to tell stories. This will be his 4th book but first one for children.
Dana Cohen works mostly in watercolor and ink and her style has been described as whimsical with a bite. She received a BA in Studio Art from Florida State University and a MFA in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design. She has been called many names but Donut has stuck around the longest. Her daily challenge is not mixing up her coffee cup with her paint water container. http://cohenillustration.com/home.html

The Gnome in Your Home
Unlike elves who get into mischief, gnomes are much better to have around the house. They watch over things and make sure no monsters crawl out from under any beds. They've also been known to leave encouraging notes and tell jokes from time to time.
We've partnered with the very talented Carolee Carpenter Jandreau to make these. Check out more cool stuff at her Etsy store: https://www.etsy.com/shop/NatureTableTreasures

Thank you so much for taking the time to check out the project. We hope you'll help us turn this dream into a reality!
$17,000 - HARD COVER!
At $17,000, the book will be published in hardcover format. This is a goal we would really love to reach as children's books are truly meant to be in hardcover.
$22,000 - 2nd Activity Book!
At $22,000, everyone who backs at the $20 level or higher will receive an activity book. This will be a different activity book from the one at the $40 level.
$25,000 - Volume 2!
At $25,000, we'll start illustrating the next Glippy adventure: The Wizard's Curse. The story is done and just waiting to be drawn. Also, all Kickstarter backers of this project will get a discount on The Wizard's Curse.
Risks and challenges
Anytime you're dealing with art and publishing, there's a chance for delays. However, the illustrator, Dana Cohen, is a proven professional, and the art will most assuredly be done on time barring some unforeseen illness or shortage of watercolors. Also, I'm using a North American publisher which means the books won't get stuck in some shipping container for weeks on end.
If there are delays due to revisions, printing, or shipping, you have my word that I will do everything I can to have the books to you as quickly as possible, and I'll communicate with you every step of the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
