The BikeSpike is backed by the world’s smallest GPS chipset with a built-in antenna, an on-board accelerometer, and a connection to a global cellular network.

What does it do?
- Monitor your bike's location on a map using your phone or computer, (native iOS and android app included)
- Collision detection system can alert key members of your contact list and share the location of an accident.
- Grant temporary access to local law enforcement, helping increase the chances of recovery.
- Digitally "lock" your bike and receive a notification if your bike moves from its geo-fenced location or if someone even tampers with it
- Share your stats (distance, speed, and courses...) with friends, coaches and spectators.
- Monitor your children and get notified if they ride out of their safe zone.
- Our open API allows developers to create gaming and fitness apps that you can download and use with the device or use the data created from the BikeSpike to integrate with the existing apps you already love. Export a GPX file.
- PLUS, with the Hacker Pack, you can connect it to a motorcycle or other on-board batteries for a continual charge.
Our hardware/software solution will send an alert to key members of your contacts lists in the event of an accident, behave like a digital guard waiting to back if disturbed, and of course give your bike the best chance it's ever had at being recovered. Tiers
Coverage and Plan Details
All purchasable tiers with the BikeSpike device ship with 1 or 2 years of pre-enrolled service in the U.S. at their promotional prices. (See map for coverage details). If we reach 300k, we will undergo EU Certifications and unlock additional tiers that provide coverage in Europe. At each additional reach goal, we will unlock corresponding territories.
The 'Urban Commuter' plan covers the cellular data provided by our carrier partners. It is an essential piece of the BikeSpike, empowering the device to report your daily rides and assist with recovery when stolen.
The 'Pro Plan' gives you all of the benefits of the 'Urban Commuter' plan plus the power to activate live updates during your training and racing. It also allows you to publish your ride and create public races against other users. The Pro Plan also unlocks essential tools for coaches and fleet management operations.
Once your Kickstarter promotion plan ends (either 1 or 2 years from arrival), standard rates will apply.
Each BikeSpike will ship with a AC wall charger. Casual rides will need to recharge the device about once per month. Notifications can be set up when the battery level reaches a low charge.

Risks and challenges
Cellular Certifications
Cellular carriers require that we certify the BikeSpike for use on their network, this is part of the reason we need your help! Although we're partnering with pre-compliance testing houses and antenna matching services that guarantee certification, it may take more additional time than initially quoted. The upside is our current partnerships would prevent us from having to waste any additional money on these certifications.
Production Manufacturer Selection
While we have relationships with local manufacturers for our development boards, we may need to switch to larger manufacturers based on product demand (which we hope to be huge!). This switch takes time, but will allow us to accommodate everyone that wants a BikeSpike. Our team has prior experience performing first article inspection of parts in Chinese manufacturing lines, and we can't wait to see Shenzhen's electronics markets again!
Quality Control
With any manufacturing partner there is the possibility that our initial runs do not meet our standards. Additional time may be required as we work with our partners to ensure that your BikeSpike is perfect.
API Availability
We plan on having our core API available for developers before launch, but some of the super sweet API features may require additional work to ensure that they're bullet-proof.
Firmware Revisions
Our BikeSpike prototypes successfully transmit accelerometer and GPS data from inside the urban canyon that is Chicago. However, we can only ride so far. We'd love to get our devices in as many hands as possible. We're in the process of lining up beta testers, and our team is capable of addressing any issues these testers may find.

The BikeSpike is an additional layer of security that can tip the owner off the moment it is moved from it's geo-fenced location. It is NOT meant to replace any locking system. Part of the success of the BikeSpike is due to it's stealth location which can be nicely cloaked with our custom water bottle cage. In addition, the BikeSpike will ship with security fasteners and a special installation tool. The user can tune the sensitivity of the accelerometer to notify them if the orientation of the parked device changes. This could detect a locked bike falling to the ground or someone tampering with the device. To enable this feature, the user can chose to mark the parked bike and digitally "lock" it.
Assuming a thief was aware of the hidden BikeSpike device and had the special security installation tool, it would take an ample amount of time for them to remove the device. Also, any manual attack by thieves would run the risk of damaging the frame of the bike they wish to steal. Think of the BikeSpike in the same way you think of a guard dog in your home. Knowing that there is a defender ready to bark is something that gives intruders a reason to leave your house alone. Our device will push a notification to the owner, if tampered with or disturbed giving the owner additional peace of mind. The owner of the BikeSpike can adjust what constitutes as an alert, to their own taste. Examples: Your bike falling on it's side, an inconsiderate fellow biker banging into your bike as they lock theirs to a rack, all can prompt an alert.
