3/5 hidden HEROES unveiled!
LDF Second Lieutenant. She appears like a big sister to people outside the combat field. Growing up in Delta City, she is very concerned about Alpha, the infected neighbor city. She sees joining Luna Defense Forces a mission to protect people rather than a career. As all other LDF spec-ops girl soldiers, she has stealthy nano-implant. Good at Sniper gun, SMG, and leadership.
He never met his parents. His only connection with them is the swaddling clothes marked "Lupo" when he was found. He was a smart kid and learned robotic technology all by himself in a garbage dump. Like all Cyber-Lover outcast soldiers, he joined the drug mafia to make money and to achieve his dream, which is to become a shop-owner that sells Old Civ stuff. He is one of the four lieutenants to assist Tyrfing, can control mini combat robots on the battle field, and is good at Spears. He craves for finding every possible way to collect money.
Sally used to be a common resident in Delta City. She resents violence, but as the Marketing VP at Onipunks Mobile Suit Branch, she learned the skills to pilot these military mechas through different expos. One day she felt asleep in a Prototype Roquin Mobile Suit at an expo, and when she woke up, Delta City had already fallen in chaos. Fortunately she found the manual of Roquin and a S7 jumpsuit prototype. She doesn't like guns, so don't force her to shoot, because she misses the target almost every time. She fights in a mobile suit and is somehow ridiculously good with a cleaver.

We love apocalyptic themes (not in real life, of course!), and have been thinking about the best way to integrate themes of desperation, chaos, and hope into one game. This isn’t just about simple storytelling or displaying a crisis in front of you; it’s our invitation to you to enter into and interact with this world.
C-Wars is a roguelike game. Its gameplay allows you to explore this cyberpunk apocalypse in your own way.
Roguelike is retro but not old fashioned, especially when embedded with an original combat system.
In addition to the numerous special/random encounters commonly seen in a regular roguelike game, we’ve spent a large amount of time creating this unique combat system, which follows an RTS spirit with an ARPG essence. Our goal is to amplify units collaboration and micromanagement.
It's a magnificent combination of retro-style visuals and innovative gameplay.
A global nuclear war reset humankind, and Luna base became the final outpost of civilization. 150 years later, Alpha, the largest Luna city, was infected by Crystal mutants. Despite all the precautions taken, the infection broke the quarantine barrier and hit Delta City.
Luna Council decided to use tactical nuclear weapons to terminate the two cites. You, as Sector 7's field commander, must enter these infected areas and find out the truth before it's too late. Your decisions in the game will determine Luna's fate.
You can cooperate with LDF to set up tactical nuclear bombs and wipe out the infected people...but many innocent lives will be lost in the process.
Eliminate Cyber-Lover, the mafia army, to steal their research on the Crystal Clan...but you can't unveil the dark truth behind this outbreak yet.
Or, you could choose the hardest option: fight your way out to reach the core of Alpha City, retrieve the fatal data from the old Sector 6 Research facility, and convince the Council to stop their termination.
Luna's fate depends on you, our final hope.
Now, go, save mankind!
Explore two huge cities progressively and check as many spots as you can...but remember, you are running out of time. Luna Council is about to nuke these cities.
Your decision matters and can change Luna world’s fate. Different endings, rich encounters. Can you save Delta?
RTS on blocks?
On the battle field, you need blue blocks to summon backups. Don't panic if enemies take them away, because you can always get them back.
Your backups are summoned soldiers. They will attack when they can, but you are responsible for their lives. Make sure to move them to the best tactical positions in realtime. Your captain will wait for your order to attack, just as in old-school ARPGs.
The combat system looks quite busy, but it will never be chaotic. You can pause whenever you want.
Plus, if you pledge "More Hero," you will have a supremely powerful captain on your side from the beginning, so you have nothing to worry about (this hidden hero will not ruin your game, we promise!).
Beat the game your own way.
Over 20 units from 4 different organizations. You can also deploy turrets and special units to fight. Try them all and have fun!
Now that’s the tactic we’re talking about. Collaborate your units!
You may install up to 3 skills on each hero to produce the best team for combats.
Collect special weapons for your heroes, and mass produce them for your army.
Snatch BOSS' weapons in special encounters!
Collect surprise items. Not only can they help you on the battle field, but they also contain the key to some special encounters.
You have the chance to induce enemy bosses to be your captains. Gotta catch 'em ALL!
We’ve spent a lot of time on crafting the animations, and designed every move with the utmost care.
The Making-of Onipunks' pixel animation
Concept art, Draft, and Anime sheet
Our self-developed engine ensures better performance. Small reminder: ONI-engine packed 800+ pixel animations into 1Megabyte, about half the size of a photo taken with your phone.
The Making-of: ONI-engine dev-kits demo
Although the theme song of C-Wars is a magnificent symphony, C-Wars itself is a pixel PC game. Therefore, composer Eddy Liu wrote most melodies in retro style. Don’t be surprised if you find the original soundtrack of C-Wars to be a mixture of symphony and MIDI music.
How much have we completed on C-Wars?
With the support of seed money, we were able to complete the ONI-Engine and tons of animations in the past 3 years. Now, however, more help is required for us to finish the game. What we’re asking for on Kickstarter is approximately 15% of the total development cost. Your contribution will provide us not only more financial support but also confidence. Show us that YOU want this game from us.
How your KS contribution will be used：
Luna got some help from this awesome INDIE community!
We are honored to present our 3 awesome indie friends. They sent their most powerful heroes to help us in this mutant outbreak.
They bleed pixels from Spooky Squid Games [Toronto, Canada]
Cryamore from NostalgiCO [Chicago, US]
Wooden Sen'Sey from UpperByte [Lyon, France]
Shovel Knight from Yacht Club Games [Los Angeles, US]
These heroes are recruitable captains in C-Wars. They will also have their bonus levels and very special events in the game!
Risks and challenges
We can't foresee any potential delays for the PC release, so releasing the game on time won’t be a problem. The biggest risk we can think of now is that nobody gives a shit about the game once it comes out. As a still-unknown Chinese indie game developer, our biggest concern is how to receive attention. All we can do is to give our best effort and make the game really good. We’re confident in our product!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
“All Hidden Heroes” means that at least 5 hidden heroes will be available from the beginning of the game. It gives you richer scenarios, plus special events, attacks and skills. No worries, we will guide you through choosing the right one to start the game. They have been designed to be hidden in the game, so they are very rare. Occasionally they become key to special events and have unique skills for solving tricky problems, etc.
You will eventually get them if you really like C-Wars, but it's very, very difficult. We promise that these hidden ones will never ruin your game.
“Special Weapons” are backers-only special weapons. These weapons are not necessarily supremely powerful (some of them are indeed strong but won't let you beat the boss with one shot), but they ARE special. We have 12 different types of weapons so far, and you will have a special one from each type. More weapons, more fun!
We’re sorry, guys! We can't SELL you this, because if we do, the game experience will be ruined. Just imagine that you have a mini-gun in Resident Evil 2 with unlimited ammo… Will you still able to enjoy the game? You decision still matters? We don't think so…
Yes, we said these special weapons are not all powerful. But in C-Wars, Hero combinations and weapons make a huge difference in the gameplay. The right man having the right gun can be very destructive.
But, you can STILL get them. Nothing is blocked, not for Catch'em all tier. Check "Define 'Catch'em ALL reward'?" in our FAQ.
0- You WILL have a DRM-free copy
1- Steam key [PC/Mac/Linux] if we get Greenlit
2- Desura key if we don't get Greenlit
3- Google play for Android
4- 3DS/WiiU key if we have Nintendo dev-kits [still unknown about the key generation cost]
Either way, you will have a DRM-free copy [PC or Android] + a Key for Retro Gamer or higher
Use add-on ;)
Art-book: IF you have 25-, you can pledge an extra $10 to have it. All 25+ pledge will automatically have a digital copy.
More copies: $10 ADD-ON for extra copy [PC or Android].
More Catch'em all: Exactly the same thing!! $10 for extra copy, can be All hidden hero or All special weapons for different copies.
More Steam Special : Add a $20 add-on to have another copy with all free DLCs. Please note, Steam special is the only exception. For all other tiers of 10+ [10 included], you only need to add $10 add-on to have an extra key + DRM-free copy.
A solo reward can't be combined with other reward, SOLO or not.
Steam Special, $40 = Music Lover tier + all free DLC if C-Wars release on Steam. For the copy, you can choose Steam Key or DRM-free.
Catch'em All, $60 = Music Lover tier + all hidden heroes OR all special weapons.
You don't have Steam Special in Catch'em All because Steam Special is a SOLO reward.
Here goes the ONLY 2 scenarios of Catch'em all:
1- Catch'em all -> All 12 Special Weapons [-> means you choose that option]
You will have one hidden hero unlocked because it's included in previous tier. You waste one special weapon coz you get all 12 already. Other hidden heroes can still be unlocked by playing the game.
2- Catch'em all -> All hidden heroes
You will have all these heroes in your pool. You can choose them to start game with. You have one special weapon which was included in previous tier. System will assign you one of the 12. So you have chance to play them all, you just don't have to total control to pick anything you want.
Either, you have all heroes unlocked, and you have 1 special weapons randomly every time starting new game, Or, you have all 12 special weapons which allow you to find and unlock hidden heroes easier. So there is nothing you CANT get from this tier.
If you choose Retro gamer, unfortunately, you don't have access to 12 special weapons. Also, you can't have them in the game or in any DLC.
Actually our Lead programmer prefers Bandai's WonderSwan.
Seriously, there is a reason; we don't know if we can have dev-kits from SONY. But we are working on it, if we get positive feedback from them about PSVita kits, it means clarification about the kits price and dev environment and so on, we will update the stretch goal as reasonable as possible.
By the way, Loup stated that he will be very happy to port C-Wars to WonderSwanColor as a ROM, if anyone can get us an official dev-kits.
1- Civilian YOU can't zombified. If mutants attack you and kill you in game, you die [will be regenerated later in the game]. You will not transform into mutant. Civilian YOU has less animation and in game visibility then fighting ones.
2- Zombie YOU is AWESOME! Because you have both Civilian version and Zombie version. 2 possible scenarios:
a- Civilian attacked by mutants, you die, and rising as a zombie with zombifying animation.
b- Summoned by AI, land directly on the battle field as zombie.
d- Summoned by System, one of the mutant of encounter, as zombie.
a- Only male can transform into Zombie
b- Female will become Crystal Tree if infected, later on, if you don't finish the battle quickly, she will break crystal from inside and become the ultra powerful BOSS the Weapon girl. Weapon girls look all the same, we can't do customization on her, sorry.
a+b = We can't accept girl's request for Zombie YOU.
3- Solider YOU. This one have the most visibility in the game, but less customization. Solider YOU can't transform into zombie. Soldier YOU don't carry your name. It's a in-game model based on your appearance. But Soldier YOU has all the attacks within the unit.
Actually, all the three are in-game models, they don't carry your name. But your name will be added into our database so there will be one soldier/civilian carries your name.
