About this project
Adventure Roll is a platform that empowers your imagination by allowing you to quickly build 3D worlds and have your players play through them in first person. By providing a full 3D environment to play in, your players will see exactly what they are up against and have their questions answered before they even ask them. Not to mention the gnome might second guess their idea to charge into the dragons mouth so they can attack it from the inside. Well... at least it will be easier to explain why they didn't survive.
Adventure Roll doesn't want to be just another virtual table top like many of the other systems out there. Instead, Adventure Roll aims to be a virtual world for you to build and players to experience. This may sound like a lot of work but there are some tools we are building to make it a lot easier.
Demo
To help give you an idea of what adventure roll is, we have put together a very small demo adventure. While it's still pretty rough around the edges, we believe in being transparent and upfront with the community.
This demo includes simplified gameplay and a selection of preset adventurers. As we build Adventure Roll more functionality will become available.
When prompted to login you can provide Username: ardemo Password: ardemo

If you are having issues, come over to our forums and we try our best to help you out.
Meshes and Maps And Nodes
One of the core features for Adventure Roll is the Live Level Editor. This is built off of a smart snapping grid that helps position pre-built nodes together similar to traditional dungeon tiles. You can assemble them in any order you want and use as many a you would like, to create a dungeon on the fly.
Nodes can be built in a separate editor or downloaded and consist of a few distinct parts:
- Foundation - The base area for this node. Ground, walls, ceiling. Basically, a permanent object that is not going to move around.
- Deco - Decorative objects and furniture. These can be added and removed to make a room feel different.
- Interactive - Any object that can be taken, moved freely by the player or physics based. This will include things like weapons, chests, doors, traps and the like.
- Meta - Meta objects are things used by the level editor itself. Things like connectors that will snap together to allow rooms to join up and generators to randomly spawn monsters in rooms when they are placed.
All of this is done in a Node editor tool outside of Adventure Roll. When you are done with a node, it's packaged and uploaded for use. If you make a node, it's saved for use on your account. Alternatively you can throw it in the marketplace for others to download or even purchase if you set a price for it.
Adventure Roll will ship with a variety of 3D models for use with in the node editor. We know that we can't cover all possibilities though. Instead we recognize the immense creativity of the community and want to open up the platform for everyone to take part in. Creatives with 3D knowledge can create models and put them up for sale or donate them for free use. Then others can use them in nodes and place them in their games. If a 3D mesh is used in a node you uploaded, the mesh will be listed as a prerequisite.
This creates an environment where the creative community can put together assets and help cover every possible genre there is.
Characters outside of stories
Building environments isn't everything though. Adventure roll will launch with a character creator which will let you plan and build characters so they aren't bound to a single game. Any changes to equipment, experience or currency is kept track of, so you don't need to.
Because of the amount of customization that goes into character creation, we want to open this up to the community too. So, we will be allowing for a import and export of body parts as well. These will have some restrictions and stipulations, however, having the ability to import a custom set of ears or clothes and share them on marketplace is a great to show your creativity.
What brought About Adventure Roll
We are a small team of game developers who have been designing games for over 10 years now and we all love tabletop RPGs. From classics like D&D and Pathfinder to Stars Without Numbers, we typically play 3 times a week. Now we are marrying our passion for games with our desire for loot by creating a tool that will allow anyone to build the most immersive tabletop RPG experience possible.
Budget
All funds raised by Kickstarter will be put into creating additional environmental and character assets that will be available for free when we finish develop on their related systems. As it stands, we have the funding to make Adventure Roll something amazing. Before we invest all the time and money into doing that, we want to make sure there is an audience for it. That’s why the number of people who support us on Kickstarter is much more important than the amount of the pledge.
Table Top RPGs are all about immersion and the goal of Adventure Roll is to immerse players so that they really feel like they embody the character. You are as short as a dwarf or tower above others as a giant. Each would have drastically different perspectives. By bringing the players view in line with the character, players have a much better time understanding the scale of the adventure they are in.
Adventure Roll is being developed with three different aspects in mind. The GM, the player and content creators.
The GM
As a GM you need to be able to adapt to things on the fly and account for all of the crazy antics that your players will do. Some handle this with hours of planning for fringe cases, others are creative geniuses that work well under pressure. With Adventure Roll, we want to accommodate these different play styles by allowing you to do basically anything you want. The GM can control and move any creature or dynamic prop. If your players are going down an underdeveloped route, you can drop in new dangers to engage them using the Live Level Editor.
The Live Level Editor allows you to build new levels and areas of the map in real time. If the players head down an unexpected road, don't worry. You can create some new areas by selecting from a list of pre-generated rooms and snapping them into place. This allows for fast design of levels and maps in seconds.
The Player
The players get to experience true freedom in Adventure Roll. You can pick up objects, run around and see the world. Create your avatar and build their character sheet. Bringing them from game to game is super simple since characters are stored outside of individual games.
The Content Creators
Content creators are people with knowledge and expertise in 3D software who can build props, environments and characters for use within Adventure Roll. To help them we are building a small tool set that will aid in the transition process from their preferred 3D software to our servers. This is a great way for amateur artists to practice their craft while working within a developed pipeline.
After content is available for everyone, it's as simple as drag and drop to move things around, create scenes and entire level nodes.
Physical Rewards
The following are examples of physical rewards. These concepts are not final as we would like to go over some details with our supporters to ensure they get exactly what they want.
Risks and challenges
Adventure Roll is still in the infancy stages. Many of the core systems are already in place, but several still need to be created, tested and improved on. This platform will continue evolving upon release in order to be adapted to as many tabletop systems as possible, but for this to happen we require a strong and dedicated community.
The biggest risk with Adventure Roll is not getting the visibility we're hoping for. If few people know about it then content creators are less likely to find interest in developing assets to be used by the community. At its core, this platform will be community driven.
