Ever since the day we closed the doors to the Main St Allaboutrecords location people have been asking me to reopen. Well last month I was able to finally pay off the last bit of debt caused by the forced closing of the store/venue. We were strong armed by certain city hall workers due to their association with a woman that lived in the building next to the venue. She hated having kids hanging out near the entrance to her apartment building and made it her life’s goal to get us shut down, she would call the police with noise complaints every night, even though the police found them to be unwarranted after their investigation.
We never had any issues besides that woman, not 1 fight, or any reason for us to have to close down. Luckily for her she was dating a cop, her father was a cop and has been on numerous city boards, her boyfriend is a cop, and she works for the district attorney’s office. After two years she was able to find a way to force us to close down, the area we were in is a historic district and in order to have entertainment in the district you need a “special permit”. The city never told us about it when we applied for everything before opening and they used this as a way to drain our savings for three months and force us to close rather than actually making us close down.
After talking with a lot of people I have decided now might be the time to do it all again, and what better way than with a 15th anniversary show held at a new space.
if you are not familiar with AAR it was a local venue/store that in the 2 years it was open booked over 200 shows for bands from all over the world, big and small, and always helped touring bands
everyone from boys like girls, the receiving end of sirens, four years strong, a loss for words, 100 demons, Dr. chud of the misfits, hawthorne heights played there, seriously lots of bands!
I have been looking at locations and there are a few possibilities, but now we need money
The anniversary show will be FREE! but needs to be funded. If we can raise enough to fund the anniversary show, we will be able to continue using the space.
The new AAR will be an artist space located somewhere in Taunton, there are a few locations I have looked at over the past few years that would work out great for us.
things we have planned/are talking about so far:
all ages shows
food (sandwiches, fries, etc)
a lounge area to listen to records while you eat/ hang out
movie nights (including rocky horror in oct if we can make it happen)
classes on everything from booking shows, management to screen printing
I know what you are thinking, $3000 is alot of money, but just rent alone is going to cost in the $3000 range.
I can’t do this by myself, in order for this to work we need everyone that wants this place to happen to make it happen.
It is time to put your money where your mouth is
if you want it, make it happen!
