Aussie Pie Guy is Vancouver's one and only Aussie pie food truck. We make authentic Australian meat (and veggie!) pies and sausage rolls that we sell from our food truck in and around Vancouver, BC.
For those that don't know, Aussie pies are all about the pastry - our pies are made with a puff pastry top and a light and flakey base. Our fillings burst with flavour and range from traditional styles such as steak, pepper and ale to modern twists such as braised beef, mash, vegetable and hoisin sauce. And yes, we even make a genuine kangaroo pie! Aussie pies are the ultimate street food - they are quick to serve and they are made to be eaten with your hands, not a fork, so you can eat them on the go.
All of our pies are hand made in our commercial kitchen in East Vancouver. We imported our pie moulds from Australia and spent months developing our pastry and filling recipes to ensure our pies are the real deal. And judging by the "oohs" and "ahhs" from homesick Aussies that try our pies, we think we've done Australia proud.
Here at Aussie Pie Guy we only use the best possible ingredients, with a focus on locally sourced, sustainable and ethical products. Our beef for example is all grass fed free range beef from 100 Mile House (north of Vancouver) supplied by our mates at Harkness Butchers. We serve everything in 100% compostable containers and, in a nod to Bundanoon, Australia, the first town in the world to ban bottled water, we have banned the sale of bottled water from our truck. Instead, in keeping with Vancouver's initiative to become the greenest city in the world, we offer complimentary tap water at our truck.
Who is Aussie Pie Guy?
Aussie Pie Guy is Matt Fitzhardinge, Linda Lowery and Kiowa Martin; friends, business partners and pie lovers. We aim to create the best damn Aussie pies and a true Australian experience at our truck.
Matt Fitzhardinge: He's an Aussie, he loves pies and he's a guy. Star of the Kickstarter video and the man behind the scenes doing all the odd jobs that keep Aussie Pie Guy running smoothly.
Linda Lowery: The rose between two thorns, Linda is the official Aussie Pie Guy bean counter and passionate business developer.
Kiowa Martin: Some crazy Ottawa lad who decided to give it a whirl out west and is doing his best to keep all the pies tasty, fresh and fully stocked until everyone comes along and devours them.
Why Kickstarter? Why now?
Our first year of business has been a wild ride. We put together a rocking business plan, put in an application to the City and were chosen as the top choice of new food truck vendors in early 2013. Low and behold, this honour does not come with a healthy bonus to buy the nice, new, shiny equipment of which we dreamed. Instead, we did it on the cheap. Many hours were spent combing Craigslist, attending auctions and dumpster diving (just kidding) to put together a truck and kitchen worthy of producing our first pies.
Sadly, some of this equipment did not hold up as well as it could have and this year we hit a major speedbump. In one month, our convection oven died, our truck broke down three times and our generator died. All of this combined has really put us behind the eight ball coming in to summer.
We will use the money that we raise from our kickstarter campaign to:
1. Buy a new commercial grade convection oven.
2. Buy a much needed commercial freezer (our money for that went to truck and generator repairs).
3. Finish off the branding/wrap of our truck service window and fix some other ongoing truck issues.
What's on offer
We are offering a range of different incentives to contribute to our campaign. Everybody loves stickers! Printed locally at Second City Signs using high quality outdoor grade vinyl, we have two designs that come in a number of our reward packages.
Single-use plastic water bottles suck, reusable water bottles rock! We are providing top quality Camelbak BPA-free 750mL water bottles with a die-cut vinyl Aussie Pie Guy sticker of your choice. Choose between the Aussie Pie Guy logo or the Aussie, Shane's, Trifecta, Chook, Sweetie or Veggie pie logos.
Designed by our friend Jen and printed in North Vancouver by Bold Merchandise on girl's and guy's specific t-shirts. Take your pick of these two limited edition t-shirts that we created specifically for our Kickstarter campaign.
