Friends, family, fans, and generous strangers:
Thank you SO MUCH for checking out my campaign! It means a lot that you're even here. The past couple of years have been a whirlwind of songwriting, label meetings, working with different producers, and trying to "find my sound." It was fun and exciting at times, but it was also REALLY overwhelming. Everyone had their opinions and ideas of who I was supposed to be and they were all very, very different. I learned that there are a LOT of rules in the music industry (yes, even in Christian music), and that if I didn't follow these rules my songs might never get played on K-Love or sung at every mega-church in the country. After months of trying to fit this mold, I realized that I was selling myself short. Don't get me wrong - I genuinely love Christian music and have had the honor of touring with many of its top artists - but I don't know if the record labels or radio stations are ever going to catch my vision, and I've learned to be okay with that.
So, I decided to take a risk. I decided to let go of all of the rules that I'd learned and just write. Just create. And when I did, the result was beautiful because it was honest. The kind of honesty that is woven throughout the very Word of God and yet we so rarely sing about because "How Great Is Our God" is more comfortable. God is great, but if those are the only types of prayers you pray, well... apparently you're a better Christian than I am. Many of these songs are songs of praise, but others are songs of desperation or of questioning. You will also hear this honesty reflected in the music itself as I finally stopped trying to make "Christian-sounding" music and just made music for the Lord. You'll hear some more electronic/pop sounds on this record than I've used in the past, but you'll also hear a heavier emphasis on strings and orchestral sounds (because when you're a professional cellist, you take advantage of your skills!).
All in all, I think this is the best music I've ever made, and I can't wait for you all to hear it! But I need YOUR HELP to make this happen. Making a record is crazy expensive. Even after a bit of bargaining (I currently owe both of my producers free cello sessions for a year!), this record is still going to cost me around $17,000 to make. That will include all of the costs for tracking, mixing, mastering, marketing and distribution. I have been working my butt off and saving all of my babysitting money (literally), but that is a number far beyond my reach. But when God gives you a vision, He sees it through, and I'm trusting that He will do that now as He always has.
Please consider helping me bring these songs and this vision to life. I believe that God has anointed this music to further His Kingdom, and I can't wait to hear the testimonies of how He uses it!
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk in making a record is always financial but, thanks to Kickstarter, we are handling that on the front end! If I am able to meet my goal of $17,000, I do not foresee anything that would prevent me from making this album as promised. As far as the timeline is concerned, my goal is to release the record this November; however, that is subject to change. If all goes smoothly it could be out earlier, or if my tour schedule interrupts the process, it may not be out until early 2018. But I promise to keep all of my backers in the loop with email updates!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
