What is True North Tales?
True North Tales is a journalism project aimed at documenting the stories of fellow Canadians and the beautiful landscapes across the provinces. It's a summer project in which I travel from ocean to ocean in Southern Canada to meet Canadians. I will film, photograph and interview regular citizens in their everyday life and post it all on an online map. From maritimers to Quebecers to prairie dwellers to West Coast adventurers, discover what makes us different, but also what unites us as Canadian.
Help me bring our true north's tales to life and donate whatever small or large amount you can. If you can't donate, that's ok, just spread the word!
Discover your fellow Canadian neighbours.
But I still don't get it?
Picture this: When you navigate to TrueNorthTales.ca, you'll see a giant map of Canada. For the locations where I interview a Canadian, there will be a drop pin on the map. Click on the tale you want to view and a new window will pop up with a short video, photojournalism essay and/or feature article. It's sort of like a multimedia version of Humans of New York.
Who Are You?
I'm a 22-year-old journalism student from Ryerson University, Toronto. After travelling to 14 different countries, I've decided to explore Canada and uncover what makes our country so beautiful and loved.
Check out my travel blog at callmeellej.tumblr.com to look at my past work.
How I'll use your funds:
- 50% = Building the website and paying those who do it
- 35% = Camera equipment
- 15% = Reward gifts
Most costs, especially living and travel costs, are coming out of my own pocket. Your funds will be directly linked to the project itself, so that it can be the best it can possibly be.
Risks and challenges
Like any project, I may encounter bumps along the road, which I predict will most likely be delays. The project's timeline is quite short, so the website and its content may be published later than intended.
I will be dedicating all my time and resources towards bringing this project to life and making it high quality work. If it means publishing the final product later than intended, so be it. I want you to be happy with where you put your money and inspired by what you helped create.
I will consistently be pushing content on True North Tales' social media (Instagram, Twitter, etc.), so you'll always be in the loop!
