Here's the deal:
You know that moment when a good night out becomes great? Becomes memorable? Becomes the sort of night you strive to re-create next time you're out and about?
We're trying to make more of those moments happen. We hope you'll help.
THREE DAY HANGOVER is creating productions of beloved plays by Shakespeare and Chekhov and performing them in bars in New York City. We're starting with great stories that say something profound, or hilarious, or mind-blowing, or gut-wrenching about what it is to be a person. Then we're adding insanely talented performers to the mix. Then we're throwing out every old notion about how these plays "should" be performed and starting fresh. We're creating adaptations that are surprising, fun, rowdy, alive, unapologetic and special.
Then we add beer (or wine, or whiskey, whatever) and invite audiences to mix everything together with us and see what sort of AMAZING SHIT happens in a night out at the bar.
What are the plays?
This spring we'll present a music-infused Twelfth Night for our time and our city..with live band karaoke.
Uncle Vanya will fill the dog days of summer with jokes about angsty Russians and shots of all kinds.
Then, this fall, because we believe in going big or going home, we'll create a Shakespeare Smash-Up, combining two plays into one, unique event.
This is a very ambitious season and here's how we plan to spend the money we raise:
Last year, we managed to make a small profit through ticket sales and donations alone. We're extremely proud to have pulled that off. This year, we're fundraising so we can up the ante a bit on our productions and continue to keep our ticket prices low. Also:
- We'll pay the artists involved. We've always paid people, we'd like to pay them more.
- Publicity. We've got an awesome publicist. He gets the word out far and wide.
- Marketing. Postcards and whatnot.
- Production costs. We keep costs very low, but sometimes we need props and stuff.
Risks and challenges
Producing fresh, exciting theater in New York is no easy task. We're lucky to have an amazing network of supporters already in place. There's a mighty group of artists, fans, venue owners and even bar tenders that have helped make our shows successful thus far. Plus, we at Three Day Hangover have been working at this sort of thing for years already.
Any hiccups along the way, we can handle them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
