About this project
Help us get as far as we can!
Thank you to all of our backers so far! Our initial funding goal was set at $35,000 - which will cover approximately half of the pilot script. $50,000 would allow us to film the entire pilot. But if we get somewhere in between we can add on more scenes or more fights, and make the production values even higher. The farther we get the more we can do!
If we do reach our $50,000 stretch goal, we'll be able to offer the following to our $100 and up backers:
1) Two custom-made wooden dice emblazoned with the five shard logos and a Broken Continent Swag Pack (button, temporary tattoo, and two bumper stickers - add $10 for international shipping)
- OR -
2) The Broken Continent Digital Package (copies of the 11x17 character poster & 11x17 map of the Heart shard, two different wallpapers, the pilot script, the theme song, and exclusive links to behind the scenes and blooper reel video) and a Broken Continent Swag Pack
For our backers at $40 to $99 we'll throw in a Swag Pack if we reach our stretch goal!

8/2: First Fight Rehearsal!
7/31: The Daughters of Tairol
7/30: Everybody Gets a Button or a High-Res Photo!

The Nitty Gritty
The Broken Continent is an epic fantasy adventure pilot heavy into pre-production that is slated to film in the Washington, DC area in September 2012.
The Story Unfolds...
Thousands of years ago, the great continent of Elyrion was broken into five pieces by the vengeful god, Relios. The pieces became known as the Five Shards: the Heart, the Blade, the Eye, the Crown, and the Fist.
Eadwyn Redway, king of the Heart and the Blade, seeks to re-unify the Five Shards under his rule. However, not all of his subjects share his ambition and rise up to oppose him. Before Eadwyn can conquer the remaining three Shards, he must first extinguish the uprising in his own land. A bloody war ensues, wreaking havoc throughout the Heart.
Refugees head to the Ironleaf Forest, where legend holds that the Daughters of Tairol will offer protection to the widows and orphans of war. As Eadwyn’s war presses on, the Daughters soon realize that they will be overrun by runaways. They must take action to stop Eadwyn.
The Daughters kidnap Queen Malkyn and Prince Boric, in hopes that it will halt Eadwyn’s march. The plan succeeds. But Eadwyn’s hawkish advisers convince him to dispatch a ruthless order of assassins, the Ebon Spider, to infiltrate Ironleaf Forest and retrieve the queen and prince.
The Creative Team
The Broken Continent is produced by award-winning indie filmmakers Francis Abbey of Ciscovaras Pictures, Kelley Slagle of Cavegirl Productions, and Bjorn Munson of Team Jabberwocky. In addition to a talented crew, we have assembled a large cast of over 20 union and non-union actors from a casting call that received over 500 submissions. Accomplished fight choreographer, Robb Hunter of Preferred Arms, will be choreographing all fight scenes in the pilot.
What’s the goal for the series?
We are producing a 30 minute pilot that can be broken down into the first season of The Broken Continent, with an ultimate goal in mind to find financing and online distribution for future seasons.
Why can’t I get a DVD of the pilot? What gives?
Our agreement with SAG-AFTRA to use union actors means that we can currently only distribute the series online, not on DVD. In the spirit of Kickstarter, this really is “Do or Die.” If we meet our goal for the pilot, everyone will get to see The Broken Continent online!
Why crowdfunding? Why not "beg, borrow & steal" - the indie filmmaker way?
We are! Okay, maybe not the stealing part. We have managed to get some great discounts from merchants and others who have read the script and are excited by the project. Our agreement with SAG-AFTRA also means we get to work with some very talented people at an “indie/low budget” rate.
But there's paying and costuming 21 principal actors and lots of extras; there's crew, props and equipment; there's fight rehearsals, weapons rental and insurance to pay for; there's mouths to feed and locations to secure. Simply put, to make a high quality, chock-full of action fantasy web series, we definitely need your help.
How else can I help?
Spread the word. The success of this campaign and the series depends on getting as many people to notice as possible. Follow our blog on our official website, become a fan of The Broken Continent on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and share the Kickstarter page - www.getbroken.tv!
Thanks for joining us on our journey to The Broken Continent!
It means we get to add more background performers and potentially stunt performers into the pilot making the scenes grander and battles bolder. It means we can make the costumes that much snazzier. It means certain locations we’d love to use are now affordable to rent for a day or days. It might mean horses! (whether the horses will have bells on or not remains to be seen).
SAG-AFTRA is the professional union of actors, voiceover artists, and all sorts of performers on screen and on the air. You can learn more about them at www.sagaftra.org.
Simply put, to ensure we had the greatest pool of talented actors to draw from. This agreement allowed us to audition all actors, union and non-union. We're very excited about our cast.
