If you want to feel how it is to be a voodoo priestess, conquistador or privateer captain.
A game for 2-5 players, age 12+. Takes 30 minutes per player.
Puerto Diablo lets you experience life in the Caribbean at the end of the 17th century. During the game the players face challenges together. Most challenges can only be overcome by two or more players cooperating. But beware, this is not a cooperative game. Alliances will be short lived. Heartless betrayal can win you the game, but could also turn against you at the worst possible moment. There can only be one winner.
While facing challenges the players discuss together who is going to help overcome the challenge. When the discussion takes a turn you do not like you can take a look at your skills, maybe you can poison a character, so they cannot help anymore. You will lose a friend, but you might make new ones now that they need you to help overcome a challenge.
There are nine different ways to setup the game. Each journey visits different harbours. Each harbour has its own characteristics. This has an effect on the strength of characters and the chance that skills will succeed.
There are over 40 different skills, and over 40 different characters. Each character has its own attributes. The first games players start with a prepared set of characters and skills. More experienced players can create their own deck via a method of drafting.
Try your own strategy. Do you want to be aggressive? Generate a lot of money? Influence the nearby future? Try it!
Game overview in dutch, with English subtitles.

When playing the game we noticed that a lot of people really like the game. It is different from other games. Real time playing of action cards, discussing with the others, working together without really helping the others. With so many people liking the game, we broadened our view, and started a Kickstarter campaign. We want the world to know about our game! We do not want you to miss it.
This has two goals: First is reaching more game players to take knowledge of the game. Second is when more players are interested in the game, we can make it better. Add the expansion, and the other stretch-goals.
"The design of Puerto Diablo is very nicely done. The cards are little paintings that really fit the atmosphere of the game. They contain a lot of information, but are clear.
Working together facing challenges, visiting the various harbours, is a lot of fun. You want to keep friendly with the other players, but you want to be the winner. You will definitely play mean tricks sometimes. The other players will do so likewise.
The skills are played in a special way. This keeps the game very interactive. There is a nice balance between working together, and teasing.
All in all this is a really funny game. It plays quite easily, but you are struggling: which characters to take to the harbour, which symbols for the challenge, which skill to play. You are busy with many things."
"Nice tactical card game in an atmospheric game world"
"Puerto Diablo is a game that perfectly evokes the atmosphere of the adventurous, and rough life of the sailors of the late seventeenth century. Players
must work together to overcome challenges. But behind their backs the blades
are sharpened and cutlasses pulled. The game plays smoothly, with phases
alternating quickly while players sail from one harbour to another.
The cards are beautifully crafted, with great attention to historical detail. Memorable characters from the Puerto Diablo events, the inspiration for this game, form the crew. Many role players will joyfully recognize the characters, but the characters might as well have walked the streets of Tortuga or New Amsterdam for real. For everyone wanting to taste how it is to be a fanatic preacher, conquistador or privateer captain."
Casper van Dijk, screenwriter Roleplay Association Arcana
"Immediately attention is drawn to the wonderful design and the amount of attention that has been paid to these cards. A huge game world is created. Still all the information to play the game is there, without getting lost in pictures and stories.
It is not difficult in this card game to
empathize the places you visit, the characters with which you are playing and
the skills you use.
A few things from the game that make this game fun and not the least: make it different from other games.
The great thing is in every harbour the players must work together. You choose whether you participate in solving challenges, but the ever-changing pilot determines who ultimately must do. This will make friends and enemies, so beware!
When several players want to play a skill at the same time, the pilot determines who can play his skill first.
It's nice to pester each other but if you spend too much time on internal conflicts and forget your end goal, you miss out on the milestones (victory points) and another player will take the win.
For me, a wonderful game with original rules and a lot of gaming fun, both for people who love beautiful atmosphere as well as people who go for the win; the novice players and die-hard game fans."

The standard rewards lets you choose:
- An English or a Dutch version
One, two, four or ten copies of the game
For other amounts, find the highest amount that is lower than the amount you wish. Add 19 euro extra per game. This applies to English and Dutch versions of the game. When the Kickstarter is over we will ask about the exact details.
Example: If you prefer SIX ENGLISH GAMES use FOUR ENGLISH GAMES for 79 euro and add 2 x 19 euro. Total amount is 117. Do not forget to add shipping outside the Netherlands.
To see the price in dollars click here. You are taken to our site where we have a currency converter. One game in English, with world-wide shipping is 39 euro. That is about 50 US dollar. Be sure to check against the current rate.
If you prefer a Dutch version, be sure to order it here and now. We will make a few extra Dutch copies, but most extra copies will be English.
All games will include all stretch goals that are achieved.
We offer free shipping in the Netherlands. Shipping to the rest of the world costs 10 euro per game. (Two games together come in a different weight category, we can only offer a discount on the game itself).
The Digital fun-pack will be sent to everyone who pledged 9 euro or more. It will include a typical Puerto Diablo background for various screen sizes (smartphone, tablet, desktop) and a PDF of the map of Puerto Diablo.
The best reward though, is to be part of the game! For €499 we enter your personality (or of someone you love) into the game. Everyone will receive a game with a card with the portrait and name. We offer options to specify attributes for the new character, and within game balance, you may pick violence, sailing, trade, science, etc.
We need a good photo at november 1st!
We would like all of you to receive the best possible game. Every stretch goal that we achieve we will put into every game. Joy for you, and joy for us.

Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstart project, we came prepared!
The game is all finished. All artwork is ready, and the game is well tested, including a blind-test. The English translation is on its way. The rule-book is good, but needs some more work (images)
The expansion is in its final testing phase. The game mechanics are ready. The final work will be done in September.
We have half a dozen offers from printing houses, and we have spoken with a few. We are well informed of the options available. We do want to use good quality cards. We are proud of this game, we would like it to shine.
The production time is about 6 weeks, and can start about 2 weeks after a successful Kickstart campaign.
A small risk is we just make our target, and we do so with a lot of worldwide support. Due to how Kickstart is setup, we then end up with less money than we plan, to create the game. A big chunk of the money is needed to ship. Since we have created a lot of fans for the game in the Netherlands we do not expect the above scenario to happen.
On the other hand, when the project is a big success, the printing costs are no problem. We can make the game as beautiful as we (and you) wish. The actual shipping might be too much work to handle for us. We have found a company who can do the shipping for us, worldwide.
Even though we are ready to proceed after the kickstart, there might be some unforeseen things happening. We took two months extra for those things. That brings the game to you in march 2015.
