WHAT'S THE STORY?
Time travel is one of the most contagious ideas in science fiction. In a society where time is a unit of value and instant gratification is prized, the idea of traveling through time offers a means of escape. And our obsession with time travel is growing: in the last decade, it's appeared more than ever in books, movies, and pop culture. What makes time travel so powerful that it resonates in each of us, and to what lengths are we going today to make it a reality?
A Brief History of Time Travel is the biography of an idea, chasing time travel from the ancient Mahabharata to the streets of Los Angeles. For people of all ages and backgrounds, it's an odyssey through the imagination and a discovery of kindred spirits.
WHO'S IN THE STORY?
Many people who've shaped modern science and pop culture as we know it were hugely impacted by dreams of time travel. From New York to L.A., we've spent the past couple of years interviewing those people: theoretical physicists, an expert on human life extension, astronomers, sci-fi writers, a legendary game designer, Doctor Who historians, jazz artists, and everyday geeks like ourselves.
WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH $35,000?
With all of our interview and archival footage collected, and with your help, we can get through the post-production phase to produce a fast-paced and gorgeous documentary on an efficient budget. Here's a breakdown of where your money goes:
WHO ARE WE?
Countless people have helped out on this film, but our core team comprises three artists. We found each other this year via common interests in science fiction and film, and from our standpoint as women, we all shared an excitement about the subversive sides of science fiction.
WHEN WILL THE FILM BE DONE, AND WHERE CAN YOU SEE IT?
We're on track to finish the film in 2015, after which we can distribute not just to film festivals near you, but to conventions that have already expressed interest in screening the film. We’ve set up a fantastic crew to help finish the film—editor, animators, color correctionist and even bands to write the score—but we need your help to hire them and make this jump to light speed!
Risks and challenges
We've assembled a fantastic crew with the dedication and talent to finish this film, but a good filmmaking team acknowledges the risk of crew members experiencing unforeseeable circumstances. Taking great care of our crew, setting a practical work and pay schedule, and having a wide and supportive network of professionals means that nothing will hold us back from making an amazing film on schedule.
