About this project
A joyfully naughty Cairn Terrier inspires the Karma Sauce Company’s name and likeness. Karma guarded our garden with extreme vigilance. The first Karma Sauce® recipe was developed in the summer of 2008 using homegrown organic peppers and other vegetables from the garden she protected (or we protected from her – take your pick).
The sauces were such a hit with friends, neighbors, and co-workers that we decided to work to make Karma Sauce available to everyone. Not an industrial “re-formulated” copy but the real thing: a minimally processed food made from whole vegetables. Two years, and untold hours later, we completed the "Karma Kitchen" to make the sauces we love, sauces that are true to their origins.
Over time the Karma Sauce line has expanded to over a dozen products, most of which have won numerous accolades (see below). We help support local farms and business with our commitment to local sourcing. Apples, onions, cherries, squash, honey, and cider vinegar are just a few of the locally produced goodies we use in our sauces.
One area where we could not keep up was sourcing local specialty chiles. So we started our own organic pepper farm; which is great because we love growing and harvesting peppers! We grew all the peppers we needed for the past season, but just by the skin of our teeth. We enjoy a cool north-east climate in Pittsford NY. But there are a few peppers that we love that we just can’t grow effectively without a little temperature boost. Enter the high tunnel (hoop house).
A high tunnel is a portable green house like structure. It offers a significant benefit by extending our grown season by several months. This will allow us to effectively grown long season peppers (like the beautiful 7 Pot Brown). With the added productivity we will also be able to produce much more sauce and maybe even offer our peppers directly to the public.
The portability of the high tunnel will allow us to provide for rotation with other crops in a sustainable pepper ecosystem. We have made significant investment in the Karma Kitchen. This leaves us in need of funds for the high tunnel. With $10k we can set up our high tunnel and ensure that next year we have a Karmic year in pepper production. Our stretch goal of $20k would go along way toward upgrading our pepper processing equipment. Thank you for your help!
Below is a sampling from our pledge rewards. All products are made by us. Note: There is never any gluten, wheat, soy or other major allergens in the Karma Kitchen! Full Disclosure: All of our homegrown hot peppers are organic but not certified. We're working on certification long term. What we don't grow, we purchase locally whenever possible and this is a mix of conventional and organic.

Risks and challenges
The weather could be horrible; Drout, disease, a plague of locusts. This is an agricultural project and has all the risks associated dealing with Mother Nature.
