On February 12th 2016 seven bands > Dogzilla, Bim Skala Bim, Dogmatics, Pajama Slave Dancers, Liz Borden Group, Moose and the Mudbugs, AEF and several specials guests < will gather at Once Ballroom in Somerville Mass to honor our old friend Chet aka Richard Rooney, owner and booker at the legendary punk rock dive bar " Chet's Last Call ".
Chet died suddenly on December 10th 2015. He helped countless bands get their start from 1983 to 1989. All the bands on these shows got much tough love and inspiration from Chet early in their now long careers..
Scores of historic Boston bands have asked to honor Chet's great legacy and be involved in this Chetstock Memorial show and documentary so we are adding two more shows.. All three events will be filmed for the documentary. Dozens of Chet's old friends will be interviewed and share the stories of his kindness to young misfit bands in need of a venue to get their music out to the world.
Many musicians are flying back into Boston for these shows from as far away as Texas, Panama, Colorado, Baltimore and other cities. We are hoping to help them with costs of things like plane tickets, train tickets, gas, etc.
The documentary will have a large payed film crew with multiple cameras, lights and live switching to fully cover the perfomances. We will also have our interviewers doing several sessions with Chet's old musician friends , bar workers and regulars telling wonderful stories about everything from Chet giving them their first headlining weekend show to Chet actually saving the life of one famous Boston musician.
February 12th 2016 will be the first of three shows. The other two are scheduled for May 21st and July 2016 and will feature more great Boston artists that Chet helped along the way like Real Kids, Classic Ruins, The Turbines, Bentmen, Gang Green, Harlequin , Xanna Don't , and many more. We really need your help to properly document these events and stories onto an important film about a historic and big man with a heart of gold who motivated so many musicians that are still making music decades later. Please check out all the cool rewards you can get for donating.
Here is a message from Chet's niece Sarah Henderson.... "Thanks for all the great work you are doing. "Chet" was my uncle and godfather and was wholeheartedly dedicated to the Boston music scene. I got an early introduction to it at age 12. I am thankful his legacy of music is still alive and thank you from the bottom of our collective heart for what you are attempting to do."
