Hello, and thanks for taking a look at my project. I'm Nick, a St. Louis singer-songwriter. I'm raising funds to make my third album, a collection of songs inspired by the season of Autumn, with the goal of bringing peace, encouragement, and challenge to those who listen. Before going any further, I want you to know that you can download my previous 2 albums for FREE on Noisetrade here: http://noisetrade.com/nickdahlquist
Now, here's a little more about this new project...
"Autumn" - At the end of May, I'll be traveling to San Antonio, Texas to work with Chris Jacobie, a producer I greatly admire for his work with artists Penny & Sparrow, JP Ruggieri, and Friendly Savages. Chris and I, along with a few other stellar musicians, will be working together to create something exciting to listen to - filled with artistic richness and integrity. "Autumn" will be a 6-song EP, floating somewhere in the realm of folk style, with a strong emphasis on warm tones and striking vocal presence. I want this to be an album that people enjoy listening to in its entirety, in one sitting.
Recording & Cost - Because I'm working with some great musicians and pursuing a high level of quality, I'll be spending a significant amount more than I did on my first two recording projects. I want to pay these folks to do their best work in order to craft these recordings with as much vibrancy as I imagine them. The funds raised from this Kickstarter campaign will provide for recording, mixing, mastering, session musicians, and CD duplication. And if we go over the goal amount, I would love to hire an awesome illustrator to create beautiful cover art.
Though I'm incredibly excited about making this album, it is far more than something I want to make for just myself. My goal is to make something that meets people in their times of doubt, challenges complacency, and encourages the active search for a lasting source of peace and hope. Thank you for checking out this project. I hope you'll consider donating and being a part of bringing these new ideas to life. I would love to put this music in your hands! If you have any questions about the music, costs, or just want to say hello, please don't hesitate reach out to me. I would love to get to know you a bit and tell you more about the project.
Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge of making this record is simply funding. Even though $7,000 is not that much in the world of crowd funding campaigns, it still feels like I'm taking a big risk by asking friends, family, and acquaintances to donate that much. I keep asking myself: "is this album worth it?" And every time the answer ends up being "yes."
The key to overcoming this challenge will be reaching a wide network of backers. I will be placing my two previous records on Noisetrade so that potential backers can download them for free and get a feel for my music before making a decision about contributing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
