We, the Appalucians, feel that our upcoming album “Bright Hills” is the culmination of our musical work leading up to this point. Through our solo work (Jay Brown, Angie Heimann) and our work in bands past and present (Lazybirds, Blushin’ Roulettes, Shantaavani, Aditi and Jay) we have established our firm and undying life’s work in music.
After laying low for a couple of years (a natural reaction to saying goodbye, at least in this life) to some dearly beloved band members and saying big hellos to a whole new phase of life - parenthood - we happened to meet at our kids’ preschool. After playing a few shows together as separate musical acts, it soon became apparent that we ought to form a band.
It’s been a lovely journey so far, and with our regular jobs and full time parenthood gigs, we have managed to do quite a bit as a band. Last fall, we went to Alabama (kids in tow) for ten days and managed to record our debut album, “Bright Hills.” It's a collection of fourteen songs (some old, some new, none borrowed, some blue) thanks to the expertise of Bud Brown, engineer extraordinaire.
The time flew by, and after piling in the van to return home we were quite excited to listen to our rough mixes. Two minutes into the first song, one of our kids asked “Can we listen to Moana music?” In spite of that, They now request our songs. We really love this collection of songs and we hope you will too.
We are independent, meaning we have no label support. We are doing this on our own with your help. It takes a lot of money and time to write, practice, record, mix, master, artistically package and duplicate and album. It takes more still to hire the expert help of a videographer, photographer, radio promoter and publicist. Some of these steps we have paid for already, while for some we have gratefully accepted the payment plan option. Bottom line, we need your help.
If you like our sound, we would be so happy to have your support in putting out this album. We are greatly appreciative of any amount you are able to give. At the very least you get a cool sticker. For a $15 pledge you get the physical CD which will provide you with hours of listening pleasure. From there we have multiple options ranging all the way up to a hand-tailored song just for you.
Thank you for being a patron of the arts!
Much love and gratitude,
Risks and challenges
We have written, recorded, mixed and mastered a 14 song album. Long term, we would love to keep on making records and playing live shows to appreciative audiences. We imagine we will do that in some capacity regardless of our degree of “commercial success,” but our intention is to broaden our audience and get our music out to more people. For us, making and recording music is the easy (though not necessarily inexpensive) part. “Getting it out there” is the part we need help with.
We know we need to promote, publicize and travel to perform in order to reach as many ears as possible. We feel like this album is our best work so far and are prepared to do the hard work get our album out there. With this Kickstarter we will hire a publicist as well as a radio promotion professional who believe in our music to help us reach a broader audience so that we can keep making music for years to come.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
