Insecticide: Extermination is a brand new shoot ‘em up game with a classic retro arcade gameplay style!
Join the intrepid quartet of heroes from the Insecticide comic book on a fast-paced bullet-hell crusade to rid a space mining facility of a particularly vicious alien infestation. At your disposal will be an arsenal of high-tech weapons built for maximum destruction both on the ground and in the air. Fight your way through 8 action-packed levels with a colorful 3D art style and deliver justice to the Insectoid menace!
We will be blending two much-loved gameplay styles from many mid-90’s arcade classics for a unique two-part level structure. Side-scrolling missions as the character on the ground AND flying in each of the character’s unique space ships!
Insecticide: Extermination is based on the 2016 comic book Insecticide that our team independently published. It features 3D rendered visuals instead of traditional ink and color drawings and sets the tone for this project. Check it out here! ABOUT INSECTICIDE
We are a team of professional artists who are looking to delve into our love of video games and share it with the world. Using Unity and taking pages from classic arcade-style favorites like Contra, Metal Slug, and Star Fox we aim to deliver a classic arcade-hard experience that can be enjoyed from the comfort of your computer chair. Characters:
Insecticide will feature a roster of 4 courageous playable heroes each with their own unique abilities and personalized space ships!

Enemies:
Our heroes are pitted against a vast horde of vicious, mindless evil space bugs! Use your arsenal to exterminate them all!

Arsenal:
Punish those evil alien bugs with a variety of weapons including machine guns, shotguns, and rocket launchers! Small arms aren’t all that is at your disposal; take to the skies with each hero’s own unique space ship!

Worlds:
Explore a mysterious and dangerous alien planet as you fight through hordes of ravenous, humongous insects!

THE GAME SPECIFICS
Currently, we have a playable demo of 1 pre-alpha level and 1 playable character with 1 primary weapon and 1 spaceship. The level takes place in a split-mission structure so you get two classic SHMUP styles in one game! Mission A takes place as the character on the ground in a side-scrolling environment similar to Contra. Mission B takes place in an on-rails space-shooter environment similar to Star Fox. We intend to allot ourselves an 18 month development cycle. By the end of this cycle we will have a game that has:
-8 full levels
-At least 4 unique playable characters
-At least 4 spaceships to choose from
-At least 5 varied weapons to use
-At least 8 mini-bosses and 8 big-bosses
-A polished art style

TEAM
Michael Williams – Music Writer - Michael is the second writer for the soundtrack. He plays the drums and some guitar. He has been playing music for 10 years.

Risks and challenges
The major challenge facing this project is that no one on the current team is a fluent programmer. Thankfully, Unity is a very user friendly platform and has enabled us to get this far with relative ease. We are very familiar with various 3D modeling and animation programs. This experience has made using Unity much less confusing than it would have been otherwise. We are well versed in professional productions both salary and free-lance and are committed to meeting deadlines to deliver a satisfactory product. We are willing to bring on more proficient and experienced game developers as well as learning it ourselves as we go along, provided funding will allow us to do so.
