A Glass of Ocean is about taking small pieces and making something bigger than all of us.
Over the past 2 years my small idea for an album has grown into an enormous endeavor. What started as a side project has evolved into a large effort of collaboration, admiration, and a widespread donation of talent. I want to share this journey of a Minnesota community.
My plan was to create an album in small pieces, where every artist focused on one song, one part, and not the whole of the album. Each song featured different players, different influences, and dynamic collaborations. So far, the project has gathered folk bands and soulful pop groups. I have mixed jazz players with bluegrass bands, rock bands with solo acoustic artists. What started as a small circle of close friends gradually turned into 100 different musicians all willing to donate their time and craft to help write, arrange, and bring my ideas to life.
100 artists later, this project is full of promise. The album showcases many the talented musicians that Minnesota has to offer. Each of their unselfish donations to participate, their willingness to record on show nights, to skip rehearsals with their own bands, to come be a part of something unique is overwhelming. I can’t believe the list of artists that have shown their support and commitment to help make this possible.
This truly is a honeycomb of contributions.
Why do I call this project A Glass of Ocean? I believe that life is about being a part of something bigger than each of us. How our individual contributions can help form an ocean full of music.
We need Kickstarter to continue this project. I think this special project should be released in a special way, vinyl. Kickstarter will allow us to move forward with this recording project, mix it using a variety of engineers with Minnesota connections, press a limited edition vinyl, and launch a website to showcase this community of artists that graced this story with their skills.
Below is a brief list of all of the artists and bands that donated their time for this. They deserve to have this project, their project completed!! Thank you, and please check out their websites and music to hear their wonderful artistry.
