About this project
During my first trip to Tibet in the year 2000, I could see how Tibetan culture and religion were repressed in their homeland. I came back with a sense of sadness and disappointment about what I thought was lost forever.
But a few years later, I met a Tibetan family in India who assured me that by visiting their settlement, I would find what I was looking for. So I decided to follow them to Bylakuppe, a refugee camp in Southern India where I discovered how the refugees were able to uphold their culture.
For the last 10 years I have been documenting Tibetan refugees in several areas of India (Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Sikkim, Darjeeling, Ladakh, Bodhgaya), Nepal, Taiwan, US, UK, France, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium, Holland and Canada; focusing on their daily activities in the countries where they now live and the deep intimacy of their private lives where they continue to practice and honor their Tibetan beliefs.
My goal is to unite visually, the Tibetans in exile who are now displaced all around the world, living in limbo, in a unique de facto state. With a Prime Minister and a government that no country in the world recognizes; an official language and their own medicine, symbols, calendar, and, above all, their spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama.
The hardcover book, designed by renowned designer Teun van der Heijden, is ready to be published by one of the finest international Publishers: Dewi Lewis Publishing (http://www.dewilewis.com).
It will measure 31 x 24,5 cm (12,2 x 9,6 inches), contain 208 pages, 100 color pictures, two different kinds of high-quality paper, a forward by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, an introduction by Lobsang Sangay (Prime Minister of the Tibetan Government in Exile) and various inserts with quotes from Tibetan refugees.
Currently I am also organizing a traveling exhibition in top locations in Milan, London, New York, Mumbai, and in as many countries as I can.
I am in close contact with Vimala (http://www.associazionevimala.org/uk/index.php/en/), an association that supports Tibetan refugees and has been doing so for more than 20 years. Together we will raise awareness and fundraise for the Tibetan heritage during all exhibitions and book presentations.

How to choose your prints:
You can easily choose at the following link the prints that you will receive as a reward for your pledge: http://www.albertinadurso.com/private-galleries/out-of-tibet---fine-art-prints/printsales_01/ Login: kick Password: starter
Scroll the cursor on the thumbnails and the number of the photograph will appear.
Please to not hesitate to contact me if you prefer to receive directly to your email the available images for your pledge, or if you need advice on the size of the print of your favorite image.
I chose to offer Dibond aluminium mounting for the prints because it’s a well recognized archival exhibition standard, resistant to bowing, and it can be hanged like floating on the wall or be framed with all kind of materials and supports. A Dibond subframe will keep your print rigid regardless of the size chosen.
This direct print sale, with these special prices and sizes, is a Kickstarter-only opportunity. It will end together with this campaign.
For rewards #8, #10 and #11 you can choose any picture from the book: http://www.albertinadurso.com/private-galleries/out-of-tibet---fine-art-prints/printsales_01/ Login: kick Password: starter or contact me if you prefer to receive directly to your email all the available images.
Risks and challenges
The book is ready to be printed so, if successfully backed, we don't expect any significant changes and delays. The exhibitions are not scheduled yet, so dates and locations may slightly vary. But that won't affect the delivery of the prints that will be chosen as a reward.
I will deliver the book and the prints everywhere in the world but, be aware that they contain pictures and a text of the Dalai Lama, and other content that is censored in China, so I cannot guarantee that, if you live there, your rewards will make it through customs.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
