Ambient Cowboy by Ivy Baldwin Dance
For the past year, my 3 long-time dancer/collaborators and I have been arduously at work developing a new evening-length dance production. Now, we're nearing its completion and we're asking your help to get us to the finish line.
Seeded by a visit to Philip Johnson's Glass House—with its brilliantly audacious imposition of serene, spare modernity on the abundant, looming wilderness—Ambient Cowboy explores this fertile landscape of contrasting elements, through dance, drama, sound, and setting.
If you'd like a look at a completed work, watch the video clip above, an excerpt from 2010's Here Rests Peggy. In it you'll see and hear the work of the people you're supporting. Your contribution to this Kickstarter project and Ambient Cowboy allows beautiful and boundary-pushing efforts from these amazing artists to reach the public:
- Performance by downtown-dance rock-stars Lawrence Cassella, Molly Poerstel, Eleanor Smith (and moi)
- Sound design by Justin Jones
- Set design by visual artist Anna Schuleit
- Costume design by fashion designer Albert Sakhai
- Lighting design by Chloë Z. Brown
Finally, a question you might be asking: If Ambient Cowboy is near completion, booked, publicized, about to premiere—why are we asking now for your support?
Well, though Ambient Cowboy is commissioned and produced by New York Live Arts, their generous involvement doesn't come close to covering the costs—however spartan—associated with bringing this piece to the stage. We still have to raise thousands of dollars to cover rehearsal space, workman's compensation insurance, performer and collaborator expenses, video documentation. We're looking to the Kickstarter community—and more specifically, to you, who were interested enough in our efforts to have read this far—to collectively contribute $2,500. Be a part of what we're doing, and we'll gratefully reward you as noted at right.
It takes a village!
Many, many thanks for your support,Ivy Baldwin
