IMPORTANT NOTE!
Dear Friends and Fans,
We're now rapidly approaching our deadline on kickstarter.com.
Our original goal was $12,000 - but thanks to your enthusiasm and generous support - currently 164 BACKERS --, we've surpassed it !! Thank you so much.
But this amount is less than half of what we estimate we need to finish and get us to the Venice Film Festival on Sept. 1. We've just begun the work on the sound design and still have a lot to do before we can safely say - "It's a wrap!"
So, if you believe in LA COMMEDIA, our desire to bring a no-realistic cinematic translation of Dante Alighieri's epic poem to the screen, and want to support it, please consider making a donation now. Every $10, $20... $100... $5000... helps. If you simply cannot afford a donation, we need you more than we need your money... you can help by forwarding our link to 20 friends who MIGHT BE ABLE afford a donation or simply help with the word of mouth.
CARPE DIEM - now it's the time!!
Much love and gratitude -
Amos & Elena

ABOUT THE PROJECT
As some of you may know, Amos Poe is one of the leading figures of the no wave cinema movement and is considered by many to be the father of the modern indie American cinema. (see Celine Danhier's "Blank City"). His films include: "The Blank Generation", "Unmade Beds", "The Foreigner", "Subway Riders", "Alphabet City", "Rocket Gibraltar", "Frogs For Snakes", "Steve Earle:Just An American Boy" and "Empire II".

His current project LA COMMEDIA di Amos Poe is inspired by Dante Alighieri’s 700 year-old literary masterpiece “La Divina Commedia” and Edward Muybridge’s 19th century breakthrough “The Horse In Motion”, arguably the first “motion picture”.

The key element of this film is the idea of a journey in motion, a pattern of events. Amos and Dante are two “travelers” in the middle of their years that have to confront themselves while undergoing a mid life crisis. "In the middle of my years I found myself in a dark wood..." so begins The Inferno.

“The Comedy” is conceived as a cinema veritè document of Poe’s summer journey in Italy and France (see Jonas Mekas' "Journey in Lithuania"). It deals primarily with the perception of motion in a motion picture. It ‘s composed of 6000 animated still images shot between May and September 2009 mostly in Florence (Italy), divided into three cinematic sequences (100 cantos) that remind us of the allegorical journey of Dante Alighieri to find Beatrice through Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso - a kind of re-invention of the comedy for the 21st century; 700 years after Mr. Alighieri's revolutionary best seller.

With "La Commedia" Poe carves a new "lingua vulgare" on the movie screen -- a new sweet style of poetry.

WHY KICKSTARTER?

The artistic background of the director, the ideas behind “La Commedia” and Kickstarter have a common key element: creative freedom. The freedom that a profound idea, the support of friends and the inspiration of a community can produce a movie without the millions necessary for industrial art. This film has, in fact, a no budget attitude, truly independent and produced entirely with the author’s own unlimited investment. This motion picture has been shot with a consumer camera - Olympus 1050. Nearly 40% of the budget is for music and licensing, 75% is for post-production. With this Kickstarter Campaign, we hope to raise a minimum of $12.000, to help us finish the editing and licensing of music for our premiere at the upcoming Venice Film Festival (Orizzonti section) in September 2010.

The director and his small crew (editor Ben Bindra, sound designer JR Skola and producer Elena Santamaria) are now working on post-production, and Poe would like to have musical pieces by Philip Glass (Paradiso), Tom Tom Club (Purgatorio) and Sonic Youth (Inferno), among others. Poe is also looking forward to licensing the music of Bernard Herrmann, Nino Rota and Ennio Morricone. The reading of Dante's poem will be by Carmelo Bene, Roberto Benigni, Sandro Lombardi and Alfonso Santagata.

Tra le sue migliori pellicole: "The Blank Generation", "Unmade Beds", "The Foreigner", "Subway Riders", "Alphabet City", "Rocket Gibraltar", "Frogs For Snakes", "Steve Earle:Just An American Boy" and "Empire II".
