About this project
TheBrentwoodSpirit.com is a weekly community news website devoted to the town of Brentwood, Missouri.
Founded in 2010, its goal has been to cover local news and events and make the information easily accessible to all.
Local coverage is almost a lost art in today’s world of journalism for the masses. Countless small community newspapers have been snuffed out by large, regional newspapers or national online news services and many small, local businesses cannot afford to advertise. For the larger media outlets to turn a profit, ad space must be sold to businesses that can afford to market regionally, nationally, or globally.
Lost in the mix is the news of what’s happening to you, in your community.
In the last year and a half, The Brentwood Spirit has made smalltown news available on the web. However, we've found that not everyone in the community can access it.

Would you like to support and encourage this effort to bring The Brentwood Spirit to print?
If you're a Brentwood resident, would you like to receive weekly printed editions of The Brentwood Spirit and be able to view all the local news on The Brentwood Spirit website? We would too, and that’s why we’re asking for your help.
In order to bring The Brentwood Spirit to print, we need to raise $20,000 in seed money.
It is The Brentwood Spirit’s challenge to not only reflect the spirit of the community, but historically document our community for generations to come. Although all the photos and articles from the last year and a half do both quite well, not everyone in the community has access to the online site, also, our local organizations and advertisers need the type of exposure that print provides.
We have partnered with Kickstart.com to help us.

Why support a printed edition when I'm not interested. I love the online site and will not be reading a print edition.
This is great! We enjoy the online edition better ourselves however, we want to keep our “paper” free of charge for our residents. Even though you will not be a print edition reader, If you love the online edition I’m asking that you support the print launch and here's why:
We found that advertisers and potential advertisers are often more willing to pay for print ads and not online ads and those are advertising dollars The Brentwood Spirit needs.
When we started our website, we assumed that print was dead, but we found that locally, a lot of people still want to receive print editions and advertisers want to be assured that everyone will see their ads. Right now, advertisers are spending their dollars on coupon and mailing services (think of those fat envelopes of little coupons that come in the mail once a week); paying people to go door to door with coupons and flyers and newsletters.
We must give everyone what they want in order to keep providing the online edition.
