Villains & Henchmen! (Canceled)
Villains & Henchmen! - a board game for 1-4 players, where you get to be the bad guys!!
Find us on the following social media platforms!
One of the world’s most nefarious and diabolical super-villains has been captured and imprisoned by meddling heroes. As fellow villains and loyal henchmen, it’s your job to orchestrate an escape!
In this cooperative board game for 1-4 players, you will acquire powers, battle heroes, and overcome obstacles to spring the super-villain from a maximum-security prison. To succeed, you must work together. Of course, as villains, you’re all trying to one-up each other so that you can claim bragging rights as the true villain of the group - relegating the other players to mere henchmen!
Villains & Henchmen! is a game of hand management - players act in turn to play the cards in their hand, Attacking heroes, Defending against guards, and using Power Surges to acquire powers. Powers increase the efficiency of a player's hand by (for example) granting extra Attack, or allowing players to circumvent a troublesome foe.
To win a game of V&H!, players need to meet the Victory conditions of their chosen Setting card. Usually, this requires defeating one of two heroes (hostages always help when making an escape!) and accumulating other Victory cards based on the Setting.
Of course, the players risk losing a game of V&H! in a couple of ways. One way is by allowing the Defeat conditions of the chosen Setting to occur. Another is by letting one of the Power decks run out of cards - prison breaks can't take all day, after all!
For a visual explanation of a player turn, and the ways in which the game's components interact, check out our handy Game Play Video (voice over by the inestimable Sheldon Morley):
If you want a full game play video, from start to finish, check out this video on our website (we apologize for the audio quality; it was filmed as part of a larger charity event, so there is a lot of background noise).
Basic Shipping Information
Shipping for this campaign is not included in any of the Rewards listed. We'll be handling shipping costs after the campaign ends, via the Backer Survey. We're also offering shipping to a number of international destinations, meaning that you can get V&H! pretty much anywhere in the world! Thanks to our partnerships with said fulfillment centers, these are our estimates for shipping to all "Friendly" regions:

Please keep in mind that these are estimates. Many fulfillment centers re-evaluate their shipping prices in a new year, due to various cost increases on their end.
However, we are committed to ensuring the absolute lowest shipping price that we can arrange, and we do not anticipate that price be drastically higher than the estimates provided above.
We will be offering local pick-up to our fans! For this option, during the Backer Survey, simply select "Local Pick-Up", and you'll be given a selection of events where you can pick-up your Kickstarter rewards from the Ravensdale Publishing team in person!
All base game sets will contain 221 cards, 4 player references, 1 play mat, and 1 rule book, and will be packed in a travel-friendly, 2-part box.

World Domination Progress
World Domination Stretch Goal #0!
During the first Kickstarter campaign for V&H!*, we unlocked a World Domination stretch goal... and we're committed to honoring that success today!
So, every copy of V&H! will come with an extra Archetype card included: The Lycanthrope! This Archetype is capable of changing powers rapidly, giving them some serious versatility... but at a cost! They discard more cards than other villains when hit by a "weak" attack!
(*way back in 2016, see update on 3/14/16 -- Ben)
If we reach the following funding amounts, backers who pledged at the Early Bird or V&H! + Pin level and above will also be eligible for:
We also have a few cool upgrades that you can add to your pledge at any time during the campaign!
While the game comes with a paper version of the Play Mat, the Deluxe version is made of neoprene - making it much more durable! No folds, no creases, no tears... plus, the artwork really pops on the neoprene!
These pins are custom sculpts by our very own Samson Martinez (please give him a follow on Instagram, he deserves way more praise than he gets!), made specifically for this campaign! We're undecided whether we'll continue to produce these after the campaign ends, so now is a great opportunity to snag your favorite hero or villain designs - or all the heroes... or all the villains!... or all of both!! Depending on your preferences.
These "pins" are cast in plaster, hand-painted, and mounted with neodymium magnets to ensure a strong hold that won't poke holes in your favorite shirt or bag (plus, you can put them up on your fridge when you're not wearing them!).
Here's what folks are saying about Villains & Henchmen!, past and present!

Next we've got Nicole Laeuchli at Casual Game Revolution, with a great write-up of the game's core mechanics and flow.
We've also got Josh Worley at The Budget Board Gamer, with a great in-depth review of the game!
Next, we have Michael over at Unfiltered Gamer, who released a new overview & review video of V&H! that really got to the core of the game - plus he said some very flattering things about it!
We also did a live-play session of V&H! with Josh and Michael at Unfiltered, which you can watch over on their Facebook page!
And finally, we've got a preview video from the awesome team over at Tantrum House! They talk a bit about their favorite aspects of the game, and provide an excellent, concise overview of the game play! Check it out, and make sure to follow them!
Risks and challenges
Depending on the success of the campaign, the scope of the game may grow large enough that we need additional time testing/finalizing certain heroes, powers, or expansions. While we have a head start on this process, it's possible that we may find something that needs to be added to the game but requires tweaking. In the case that this occurs, we have added a buffer into our delivery estimate, allowing for us to finalize all expansions and Stretch Goal components that might be unlocked during the game. This will help us ensure that nothing "breaks" the game, while also not imposing any significant delays to delivery.
Manufacturing in China:
Like many other tabletop game creators, we will be working with a manufacturer in China. This can lead to delays in receiving the game, due to manufacturing delays, shipping problems, or customs issues. The only thing to do about such delays is provide prompt and honest communication to our backers, explaining the reasons behind any delays and how they will affect our delivery estimate.
Customs & Import Fees:
Any time a product is shipped across international borders, there are a variety of laws and customs regulations that come into play. We have seen how previous campaigns did not account for these rules, and it resulted in backers paying steep duties and taxes on imported games. To safeguard against that, we have partnered with a fulfillment center in the UK that offers UK, EU, and AU-friendly shipping, and a fulfillment center in Canada that offers Canada-friendly shipping. These partnerships should allow us to deliver our game to the bulk of our projected backer audience without saddling our backers with costs beyond their individual shipping amount.
As we all know, things happen that are sometimes outside of our control or ability to predict. While we have learned quite a bit, from our initial Kickstarter attempt and other campaigns that we've watched and/or supported, there is always the potential for an unexpected hurdle. In these situations, we are committed to providing honest and timely updates to our backers, explaining any issues and the solutions we have for those issues.
