A STUDENT PUBLICATION ON ART AND TRANSIT The 2011 San Francisco Art Institute Master's Collaborative is seeking funds for its unique digital publication, TRANSIT/STASIS: Negotiating Movement in the City. The project will be realized in both a publication and exhibition presenting newly commissioned work from 5 local and international artists: Aram Bartholl, Christen Sperry-Garcia, Julie Cloutier, Nick Bastis, and Resonant City. The publication will feature interviews, essays, and artist posters reflecting our exploration of the intersection between art and urban transit; technology and systems of movement.

WHY DO WE NEED THE FUNDS? As graduate students we have been given a budget from the school for our final collaborative project – but we want to make sure to create a publication that the public can access, the artists can use to promote themselves, and that we can use as a showpiece when we begin to job search. We’ve devoted our budget from the school to pay for artists honoraria and exhibition costs. This Kickstarter campaign will guarantee the production of a document that will live beyond the exhibition!

WHY ART AND TRANSIT? As artists, curators, researchers and writers, we found common interest in the systems that effect our daily movement in the Bay Area. We are exploring and re-envisioning the ways in which we encounter movement, both by transportation: public transit, walking, biking, driving, or tours and through technology: GPS, digital sharing, or cell phones.

THE FORMAT: A PORTABLE USB FLASH DRIVE In keeping with our theme, we plan to upload our publication on a business card style USB flash drive. This allows for the publication to easily be uploaded and shared. The USB is travel-friendly; it conveniently fits in a wallet and is ready to be re-used for personal file storage and sharing.

ARTIST POSTERS Included with the USB flash drive will be five 11x17 artist posters and 1 event poster. All items will be neatly secured in a transit-friendly folder with our logo.

YOUR DONATION All funds will go to the production of this publication, from purchasing costs of the USB flash drives, printing costs of the artist posters, and packaging fees. In order to keep the publication accessible to the public, it will be available on our website, http://transit-stasis.com/. The USB with printed posters are limited edition, and we are hoping to receive funds to create around 150.

THANK YOU for your support!
